Short term for cash you’re going to need, I wouldn’t use an index fund. Use the cash ISA.
Fair enough

I used my appetite for risk by going with the relatively unknown Trading212's cash ISA at 5.17% and interest paid daily.

For relatively short term, I’d always go with premium bonds. I think prize fund averages out it at 4.1% return (this may be old, I’ve not looked in a while) and there is always a chance of a big win.

It’s 4.4% now but that’s a mean average. Real average returns are a lot lower than that.

Median return is zero.

Interesting - cheers

. I read that there is no delay or penalty on withdrawls - is this correct?

Seems to be extremely flexible in that respect, it was on MoneySavingExpert and they think it's a loss leader to get people onto the platform.

I remember T212 from a few years ago but it had extremely bad reviews so I chose IG. It was based in Bulgaria, the heart of corruption in Europe which scared me off. Seems to have alright reviews now so I guess they sorted themselves out.
In the end I left IG too as I ended up with this random guy calling me from India all the time saying he’s my account manager and kept wanting me to try their other products. The bigger problem was withdrawals took far too long. I asked them to close my account which they didn’t and then started sending me inactivity fees. Which I eventually gave them an ear full about.

I use IG for our ISAs and have found them pretty good. Recent withdrawals to bank account have been near instant. They botched a recent pay-in though, due to the bank account being a joint account and thus not exactly matching *my* name. Got it sorted reasonably easily.

I've had a look. 0.7 percent taken when you put your money in - what are the other catches?

I use FreeTrade for my investing/ISA. Seems to work very well, have no complaints about the speed of paying in/out

Only on trading/stocks deposits over £2k. 0% on bank transfer deposits with a cash ISA, unless I missed something.

I opened one earlier and deposited some cash and it all went through without any charges.
