Sileck motorsport wiring on the south coast, they redid the engine harness, starter motor harness (which was really bad) and rewired the throttle body, £640 inc vat which isn’t that bad.
Excellent cheers.

My lower harness was £500 alone and it’s the same again for the upper, that doesn’t include the starter wiring.

I’ll save that for when the inevitable happens and I open the harness up.

Dave!

My engine was out having a full refresh so made sense to do it all in one hit.

Had all the visible bits powder coated while it was apart and the exhaust manifolds cerakoted.

All turning out really well so far and then upon stripping the rocker cover found out that some corrosion was too deep so tried crinkle coating it in Ferrari silver which is more of a dark grey but that turned out awful so will rethink that.

Yeah I saw them pop up on google but I don’t like dealing with companies which just state “POA” on everything

Good point, I didn't see that

What's wrong with it?

My pump motor (big black circular bit) failed on my S60, so I bought a tested second hand unit, unbolted and swapped the motor over and it was perfect afterwards.
It’s not really user serviceable unless you bodge it. From what I’ve seen on YouTube the motor is locked into place with tabs which need to be dremelled off and the motor housing itself has another housing inside it which has more tabs that need to be drilled out. Then the brushes just need replacing and they glue it all together.
You can make it out in this pic

Considering there’s a company that do all this for £250 with a lifetime guarantee that’s way easier than a shoddy bodge.

I have a chemical/solvent type smell coming from inside the Audi. I assumed it was an issue with the aircon so took it in to a local place to have a look. They cleaned the system out (and forgot to regas it..). The smell went temporarily but is now back again, without having been regassed. Anyone have an idea what it might be before I ring them back?

Took the 928 up to NY500 as part of the TIPEC regional meet. I noticed that on the dual carriageway and motorway sections cruising at 70-ish the temperature gauge crept to the high side of the range. Not in the red, but a lot higher than I'd like. When I slowed down for slower A roads, the fans were definitely kicking in and the needle dropped right down to where it should be. Think I'll wind the temperature adjustment pot down further on the fan controller and see what that does.

When it was time to leave it refused to start (something it's never done before). It would catch run at low revs but as soon as I applied any throttle it died. As it was parked in the sun and it was very hot I pushed it into the shade and popped the bonnet and waited half an hour. Tried it again and it just refused to catch. Naively, I'd brought zero tools with me but fortunately there was a really nice bunch of guys there from some random modern car club who had some gear. Discovered no power getting to the fuel pump, so either fuel pump relay or fuse. Pulled the fuse and it looked OK, but there was a bit of corrosion on the terminals. Gave them a clean by scraping with a flat bladed screwdriver, popped the fuse back in and it started on the button. Next job is to replace all the fuses and assemble a tool bag with some tools, spare fuses and relays and leave it in the boot. Lesson learned.

Lotus - 4th Gear syncro has gone. Fine when its cold but as it heats up it gets worse and worse - crunch on gear change. Dropped it off on saturday to local specialist CMC for a gearbox rebuild. said he'd have the car for 2 weeks. At the same time its getting my nice new bilsteins fitted so at least when it comes back it will feel a bit upgraded £DONTASK. there is a mission Motorsport vets thing at croft on the 3rd August i might be doing if its back in time.

Mini - Loads of stuff happening with it. We're doing an R56 rear trailing arm conversion. These are ally as opposed to steel and theres a 6kg unsprung weight gain on them. Bonnet and bumper are being sprayed. new wheels and tyres bought. Which is easier said than done as the wheels have been on back order from Team dynamics with the suppliers from November. Brakes - massive amounts of fucking about has been done with the brakes as they were basically shit. New master cylinder and fluid changes done which included having to buy diagnostics to get the ABS system to bleed. Soonest we can get back out on a trackday is the 18th Aug so thats booked. My race licence arrived last week so plan is to do the September Mod-Sports race at knockhill. Its a 2 day event run in reverse and clockwise so that gets me two circuit stamps on my licence and its multiclass so very similar to what we'll have at RoR.

M240i - still massively on the fence whether to sell and cash in the equity or keep it. Every time i drive it i'm less and less keen to get rid of it. MOT due so its going in next week for that.

318D - AC is a bit shit. Stuck it in to the local garage last week for a re-charge. They emptied the refrigerant then found a faulty temp sensor that needed ordered. As it was just an AC recharge i got Mrs A to drop it off so i dednt get the sensor details on what they were fixing but the long of the short of it was they emptied the system. Didnt refill it and left us with no AC over the hottest weekend of the year. I had intended using it yesterday to transport wheels to knockhill but it remained parked! Sensor is in and its getting fixed tomorrow.

Reassuringly expensive? What's the story with the Bilsteins? Upgrade or rebuild?

If temperature is creeping on a steady high speed cruise it’s definitely not a fan issue, there’s no way any fan will come close to the cooling effect of 70mph air. It suggests more of a hardware issue, thermostat, radiator, water pump in that order would be my work through list.

Oh, and a way to find the actual water temperature, it might just be the gauge reads higher than expected once everything has settled out and might not actually be anything to worry about.

HELLLLOOOO!!!!

My GT3’s gearbox will require rebuild too (5th gear issue); I am expecting a lot of ‘whilst the gearbox is out let’s do XYZ’ works as well.

At least it’s pretty.

There's not a tremendous amount of airflow into the rad on a 928. Like I said, the temperature drops down in traffic or when going more slowly. it's almost like the fan controller isn't turning the fans on when the car's at motorway speeds. I might bridge the A/C override (not currently connected as I have no A/C at the moment) on the controller and see what effect that has.
