Well dropped the car in at the garage for the turbo actuator only to get a call later in the day it was some motor thingy with sacrificial rods that is such a common problem, it is an off the shelf part at merc dealers.

Upshot is the part is cheaper but the bloody thing is deep in the V of the engine and could be 7 hours of labour if the turbo needs to come out. As the car is 10 years old, I am hoping any repair jobs like this will last another 10!

Nice and bonkers! Anything that good is sure to have had the bulkhead mods by now I'm sure but worth checking for.
I'm sure it has.

@drcarlos: I see! Yes, insurance pushed to go down the fully managed route. I only know of one bodyshop around here and they're okay but not amazing, so thought it would be better to let insurance deal with it.

Latest news is that they think it may be the boy struts that cause the alignment issue. Not an unreasonable suggestion based on the impact. See what happens.

Zoe update (I know, you've been on the edge of your seats). They say it is now fine and they've fixed the boot alignment. Can't get it back until Thursday.

Explanification please regarding the engine with far outboard turbots. 😉
240PP is correct it’s the Sauber engine I was putting in a mk1 Escort, which I had to sell to build my garage :(

Came out of a Sauber C8, I believe it then went on their dyno for tuning, testing etc afterwards which is why the inlet manifolds are different.

Putting one in a boat is relatively cheap so will be it’s current destination unless I win the lottery.

Tres 😎😎

It won't be short of grunt I'd assume.

Wait what now? A twin turbo v8 from a Le Mans car?

First, Christ on a bike! 8-)
Second, how’d you get hold of that?!

I’ve had it for 10 years, I bought it from Kurt Lotterschmidt of Lotec C1000 fame. Drive to Germany to collect it as it was such a great deal.

It made the escort prohibitively expensive to finish.

It makes going into an SEL prohibitively expensive.

Doesn’t matter at all in a boat 😂

Pfft, such a cock tease. We just get a picture once in a blue moon and that's about it.
How about not having a sig at all?

In 50 years my kids will come on here and mention they are finishing the boat as that’s what I would have wanted 😂

Why so bad to put in an SEL?
How bad would it have been to put in your 500?
Can you fit a towbar to the 500 to tow the boat?

What they'll actually do is just sell it on, especially if it's in a marina/harbour racking up charges. ;)

Gearbox, back axle strong enough and the price of SELs went nuts. You could get a nice 560 or 500 for 2 to 3k but having seen the rot they can hide and why the cheap ones are cheap now I can’t afford it sadly.

The 500 will always be a twin cam, unless a lottery win would fund me a Bravia conversion.

You can’t fit a tow bar to a 500e very easily plus I’d never want to tow with it anyway.

I shall tidy the engine up, remove the inlets and see what I’m looking at.

You could stick it in my MX5 for me. Thanks very much. I like the idea of turbos sticking out of the wings 😁

Just stick it on a bench with a fuel tank and a battery so we can at least hear it before fossil fuels are banned

Film every step on YouTube, plead poverty and get shitloads of patrons to pay for it to be done? Then drag it out for about 10 years like binky?

Surely there’s a ready market for an engine from a classic Le Mans car now; sell it and pay off the mortgage?

I’d much rather have it than pay the mortgage off a bit earlier. You’re a long time dead and paying off the mortgage would be quite an anti-climax I feel.
