New tyres fitted to the M140i on Friday. The old Bridgestone Potenza Sport's last nearly 7000 miles so I'm back to my favourite Goodyear F1SS's on the rear (matching the fronts).

As expected, new tyres on the MINI are a huge improvement. From the change in ride quality the old P-Zero RFTs may as well have been made of wood.

Biggest single improvement I made to my Cooper S, made more difference than an extra 50 or so HP!

Yep, not the Trout. Was a little further out west of Oxford - a place that has just opened up called the Double Red Duke (in Clanfield near Bampton about a half an hour drive). Would highly recommend it - we had sharing rib steak, chicken with madeira gravy, scallops and pork rib - all of which were excellent.

Due to huge scope creep on the 500e and what I’m veering to car wise I don’t think I’ll ever get this into a car. I think a boat will be on the cards for some old style no boost no boost no boost Wahhhhhhhh!!!! I nearly popped it on my stand but my time is being taken up by home projects like playing with solar and batteries and finishing the kids Toylander. Plus keeping cars on the road and going to work, it’s all got a bit out of hand

The big news though is the metalwork underneath the 500e is complete

A few small patches near studs and drain holes. Dave has done exactly what I knew he would and has been picky, finding any tiny fault and making it right. So many overhauls I’ve watched make messy work look nice or presume an area was good instead of making a point to check every inch of it.

The fuel tank was removed to do a proper inspection and repair to a small crack that had grown from a spot weld, a 10mm crack which had already stopped. Painted to look OE.







The build up begins.

I couldn’t be happier, I’ll get Dave to take some nice pictures once it’s built up as it really will be better than new.

It’s hard to be patient but I saw it in the flesh the other day and know it will be worth the wait!!!

Is that the Sauber engine?

Zoe gone back to the garage for a third time. They tried delivering it yesterday, but I refused as the boot alignment is still off, with uneven gaps. They're now saying that maybe it was like that before the crash and that they might not be able to get it right. Apparently "they had one like that a few weeks ago".

Currently waiting for a call from their director.

Meanwhile they've given us a Dacia Sandero that despite being just three years old looks like it has been dragged from a lake, dried with concrete and then used for tip runs. I've had the pleasure of having to pay to insure that on my insurance as it isn't supplied by the insurer, but by the garage.

My wife drove it to work and compared it, not very favourably, to the K3 Micra we had a decade ago.

240PP is correct it’s the Sauber engine I was putting in a mk1 Escort, which I had to sell to build my garage

Came out of a Sauber C8, I believe it then went on their dyno for tuning, testing etc afterwards which is why the inlet manifolds are different.



Putting one in a boat is relatively cheap so will be it’s current destination unless I win the lottery.

What do you mean? It is the company that the insurance company use. Short of managing the entire process myself I don't know that I have a choice.

Stepfather admits he made a mistake buying a Volvo V60 as it was too boring and under powered. He's decided to buy a Saab 93 Viggen.

This one.



It's in very good condition and has the same 2.3 but with the lower output turbo than my old 9-5 Aero HOT. He's very happy with it but isn't convinced by the seats.

Yes, basically. You have the option to get a quote from and use your own bodyshop for any repair. The insurance co. will try and entice you to use their service, but you don't have to.

My mate ran a bodyshop as did my neighbour and they are properly squeezed on price and therefore quality, my mate wouldn't do it he just said there's no money in it and you just get constant comebacks as the time allotted along with the requirement not to replace parts (damaged but could be straightened type scenario) mean people keep rejecting repairs. My neighbour described it as a sweatshop type environment where they had 5 painters sharing 2 booths, they had to be in an out of the booths as quickly as possible as there was always a queue for them, then there was pressure to get cars out the door as quick as possible to get more in. He actually quit with no job to go to it was that bad.

Your story is not unfamiliar, another friends lad reversed into his wifes new Q3, he got a quote from a bodyshop, around £1400 as it needed new bumper skin, clips and brackets along with fitting and paint. Insurance talked him into approved repairer (due to longer term and better loan car) where they painted the existing skin and tried to refit it on a damaged bracket, his assessment is that it was a right mess and it went back 3 times to get it sorted, he was properly pissed off when we spoke about it and said he should have used the bodyshop that gave him the quote.

Hope they get it sorted for you.
