So, after six years it was finally complete, then a few days later it is now in bits again!
The body shop are being thorough. They’ve dismantled the second skin on the safari roof and are taking the obvious dents out. The bulkhead was slightly distorted on the drivers side, but they’ve straightened it.
Found a derringer bullet in the dash area when they took the windscreen off!
Any guesses on what looks like an Irish reg hiding behind the rear number plate? I’ve tried variations of 83C**04 on Irish reg sites, but it doesn’t come up, and none of the history ever shows it being over there (I have some receipts, plus the DVLA history).

Pfft. I sold my 320td in Dec 2017 when it reached 200k, simply because I'd had it four years by then and it just refused to die. Each time the MOT was due, or the VED, or the insurance I'd tell myself "this is the last one, as soon as it goes wrong I'll bin it". But it never did. I did over 50k miles in that car. Checking the MOT history it passed another one last Oct with 220k miles and no advisories.
They're really good cars, such a shame the looks put people off at the time.

I think that Compacts now look good because most BMWs that have come since look shocking or dull..
Mechanically E36 and E46 are very strong (aside from diesel manifold flaps, but that's easily solved).It's rust that kills them, and for whatever reason the compacts tend to stay rot free.
Both my 328 track cars were going strong at 150-180k, but one had terminal rust when I sold it and only lasted another 12 months.

1983. It was registered from new to the Chief Constable of the Manchester Met Police, and it still has the original reg. number, which is in sequence with the fleet of 40-50 Range Rovers that were supplied at the same time. It's a special order white to match the Range Rovers, and has certain 90/110 details because they had already been launched and this was in the runout period, using up remaining parts stock.
Mine is A734HND, and there's images of at least ten of the Range Rovers on the web.
The fleet appears to have been a big deal at the time. I have a photo of all the Range Rovers lined up. There's even a diecast model of the 1983 "Manchester Police" Range Rover!

Jaguar update: one of the valets at the JLR dealership has driven a Range Rover into it.
Minor damage to the bumper but they will replace it with a new one.
I’m not sure what to think.

It's a massive ballache but at least they should take care of things properly.

New front wipers on both cars this week. Strangely satisfying.
E class must have the simplest swap of any car I have owned.

My dad has set a personal record from collecting his freshly repainted car from the insurers bodyshop to getting someone drive into it again. 7 hours.
Tiguan reversed see into him whilst parked.
On explaining to the idiot lady that he just collected it from the body shop in the morning she suggested my dad sell the car as it is unlucky. My dad suggested that she is perhaps blind and deaf as he could hear her parking sensors blaring away whilst sat in his own car.

On collecting his car he was told that the bodyshop was super busy since lockdown ended as lots of people were learning to drive again
Fucking unbelievable really. Guess we won’t be getting those cash back rewards from the insurers this year.

It's one of those jobs you put of for an oddly long time before finally getting around to completing and wishing you'd done it much earlier.
Despite the fact they're relatively cheap, I really hate spending money on wiper blades.

I feel the same with tyres. Put it off for ages and put up with rubbish tyres, then as soon as the new ones go on you're amazed how much quieter, smoother & grippier they are.
A bit more expensive than wipre blades tho.

Managed to give the Pretzel Wagon its 2nd polish of the year and it even got a coat of top coat (Car Plan No1), come up really well, first time I used it.
