Talking of Predator, have you seen the trailer for The Predator? Directed by Shane Black, who of course was in the original (the one with the big glasses IIRC) and has directed some great fun films including Long Kiss Goodnight, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3.

Oh good, another rehash of a classic film instead of creating something new. Just what we needed.

It's a sequel Rev, or are they not allowed now either?

Not really a sequel is it, 30+ years on. It's a remake to earn money from nostalgia.

I don't think we ever agree on anything, which I'm fine with.

I'd prefer not, in most cases. I love Fast and Furious 11 as much as the next guy, but I'd still prefer something entirely new. Sequels that genuinely develop and move the story on are perfectly fine. Sequels that either try to retell the original story, or are just somehow vaguely themed after the first movie are not.

Ooh, that last film made a load of money, we didn’t expect quite as much so we didn’t leave anything outstanding in the story. I bet if we hired a cheap writing team and a second rate director we could make just as much as the first one whilst only spending half the money purely by riding off the first ones success!!!!!

It's not really a surprise that big studios will happily make money milking something rather than take a risk on something new though, they give up any conceit of putting art before business a long time ago. There's a reason why any indy darling director they pick up makes a franchise movie before they're allowed to do anything else.

Aye it's shite but what big business isn't shite?

jebus i would hate to be alive in 20 years time when you lot start moaning about the 100th marvel film reboot that's just come out and the upcoming 237 secondary character spin offs lol

unless they really are as shit as the last jedi, then all moaning will be correct and proper

I'm still pissed off at how many times they've rebooted Spiderman in what feels like the last 10 minutes.

3 times I can think of? The wimpy guy made 3, the Any Murray look-a-likey made two which I quite enjoyed and the Homecoming which was great. Batman must have had more reboots, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, Clooney, lad from Empire of the Sun and Ben Affleck I can think of......?

Something something if Sony don't make a Spiderman film every five years or so, Fox get the rights back something something?

Same deal with Fantastic Four and X-men, IIRC?

There's a difference between just having different actors and a proper reboot. I consider Batman (1989) to Batman and Robin as one long thing, and then Batman Begins as the reboot.

Solo: I enjoyed it. Simplistic storyline but with a few subtle nods to previous films and an excellent surprise cameo as well. Excellent brain out entertainment, not as good as Rogue One but better than TFA or TLJ for me.

Good to hear - I'm watching it this afternoon and have exactly that as my level of expectation.

Yup, I was not sure which way it would go, so much whinge from the fans of the EU, which I enjoy, but as an enjoyable film with a few familiar characters it was a grand way to spend two hours.

We accidentally went for the 3D screening, I think the last thing I saw with 3D in the total was Jaws. Things have moved on although both my son and I found the goggles/specs painful for most of the screening which was a shame. Glad I tried 3D but won't be doing it again until lighter specs are available.

Oh - I'm watching it in IMAX 3D in a desperate bid to secure some form of approval from David Yu. Sadly it's not on the day of release so I fear I have already blown any chance I may have had.
