The Jaguar thing is a weird one for me. Being non-English, I certainly have less of a deep connection with the marque, simply because where I'm from, Jags have always been a rather rare sight on the roads.
However, I am acutely aware of the racing heritage and whenever I frequent the circuits of Europe for historic events, Jaguar is up there with Ferrari, Porsche and Shelby. Fabulous cars; quick, pretty, and just so fucking British (in the best possible sense of the word).
When Jaguar announced they were going to be purely electric, I knew that they were finished. It makes absolutely no sense at all, even less so since all the other kids in the schoolyard have announced they were backtracking all their EV operations. This Milanese marketing campaign shows two things: Jaguar are finished with cars and, consequently, the world is finished with Jaguar.
In the 1990s, executive enthusiasts the world over had the choice between BMW, Mercedes, Audi (urgh), Lexus (whatever) and Jaguar. Very few of them chose Jaaags. Nowadays, there's one less contender, and that's a real shame.

The only reason anyone wanted a Jag was because they have fond memories of their dad owning an XJ in the 70-80s.
No one cares any more because they’ve had 40 years of X types and XFs diluting any aspiration from the brand.

Agree with all of this. The biggest problem is they've rebooted with focus on the wrong area. The market for large exec saloons is dwindling - Jag should have gone back to their sports car heritage and started from there. You could say ah well not many people buy sports cars... but not many buy £120k+ electric saloons either and the new electric RR will take most of those customers.
It is all unfortunately misguided and rawdonGlover doesn't have a clue.

There’s going to be a lot of this going forward imo.
The whole industry dove into evs and are now pulling back because the money is evaporating. Companies without the means to restructure quickly will struggle.
All to eek out the last profit from a toxic addiction

Sadly I have to agree with this. It feels a bit like MG-Rover in the early noughties. An increasingly damaged brand that re-inventing (especially when done on the cheap) can't save.

I love the slightly informed comments: "JLR didn't build them, they got a company in Switzerland to partly design and make them."
Well, Magna Steyr are in Austria and they make (and have made) plenty of other cars perfectly well over the years, so I don't think how they were bolted together is necessarily the issue.

The Jag V12 remains one of the best engines I ever had. Sure not the most powerful but sooo smooth. Had two of them, loved them both. This modern Jag reboot worries me as far as their future is concerned but yep, guess I’m part of the problem. Didn’t buy their output when I had the chance (the doom blue 520d was chosen over an XE IIRC) and as much as l love the brand, didn’t put my money there.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but I found the grace and pace dyanmic of driving was really common across all Jags, even the more modern XE and XK.
It's a Series 3, delivered to a local business owner in June 1990 and sold by his grandson to a friend of mine last year. 147k km, non-metallic green paint and tan interior.

) My father had an XJS with the 5.3 V12, it used to cruise at illegal speeds to Wales with ease.
