Re: Project Binky
That is a very therapeutic watch when stuck on the couch with a misbehaving digestive system.
Beats me why they went to the trouble of machining two separate bits of bearing carrier rather then buy a doobry for their lathe.
Can confirm that SW20 alternator brackets are cast in neutronium and made to survive until the heat death of the universe.

Re: Project Binky
Because they want to showcase their engineering talents in order to promote their company. See - all their other vids as wellRobYob wrote: Mon Nov 26, 2018 11:23 amBeats me why they went to the trouble of machining two separate bits of bearing carrier rather then buy a doobry for their lathe.
Sorry but we need reminding that this isn't two lads who like working on cars in their spare time. It's a business, and this is how they're promoting it. And more power to them.
Re: Project Binky
So they're promoting the fact that they don't have the right kit to do it properly?
Re: Project Binky
Don't be argumentative Simon
- they're promoting the fact they can do it properly even without the right kit.
Re: Project Binky
I'm not being argumentative - are they trying to build the world's heaviest Mini or something? This is becoming like Homer Simpson's car. It may be well made, but there's more to engineering than just fabricating nicely finished brackets en masse.
Re: Project Binky
That's a separate topic to them having the right gear though, isn't it? It was never meant to be the world's lightest Mini anyway - I always saw it as "wonder if we can fit that in there" as the extent of it.

Re: Project Binky
It has a remote servo operated opening bonnet, it’s not a race car.
Re: Project Binky
That's true, but it was nice and elegant. Here they've just cut some thick brackets out of big pieces of metal.Rich B wrote: Tue Nov 27, 2018 12:21 pm It has a remote servo operated opening bonnet, it’s not a race car.
Re: Project Binky
It's only aluminium, I can't see it weighing more than a couple of kgs once complete and it's a component that should sacrifice light weight in favour of reliability. Anyway why am I bothering, it's clearly annoyed you
Re: Project Binky
Anyone else irked that they’re bolting those shiny bits onto the ugly cast aluminium parts? Please tell me they will they will make their own billet alternator covers and engine blocks
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Project Binky
Not like they're going to get it all shiny / painted at this part of the build, is it!
Re: Project Binky
Beep boop, expect another episode for the new year - hopefully Sunday for patreons, and Monday night (NYE) for the rest of us.

Re: Project Binky
It is coming together nicely. I'm feeling a bit sad that they'll eventually finish it though, it is very enjoyable watching!

I like the way they acknowledge the feedback - not specifically from us, probably from Youtube comments but it clearly duplicates what we've been saying about weight.

I worry with all this alu everywhere, especially as door 'cards', that the noise in this car is gonna be terrible...
