Did Evo actually promote the forum in those days? Looks like there's more people at those meets than there are active posters now!

And can someone tell me what IFG was? I asked shortly after I joined and just got abuse for being a noob

IFG = I'm Fucking Great, an ironic title for a sub-group of the forum that was who generally had quite a bit of talent and actually put their money where their mouth was and drove lots, everywhere instead of just talking about it.

20-something me was quite keen to be a 'member' but 41yr old me wonders why the fuck I'd have ever done that  Something lame about needing other's approval to be cool or something - tragic! :P

Genuinely though, some of that group where genuine GCs (take a bow Baz and Ben) and a few others not so much.

The mag pretty much ignored us from the outset, it was a vicious place so I can't say I'm surprised. Early meets were hit n miss, the bigger summer ones tended to get a crowd though, and there were smaller localised events too.

IFG= "I''m F''king Great", was a reaction to the egos that started to show up on the internet, and the forum. And ironically it was fuelled by people with egos.. I got caught up in the group, and had quite a few enjoyable trips with them to be fair, but I fell out with them in the end. I still have stickers and a patch from them somewhere

IFG became JGF - presumably still alive in some form..

Ironic as Just Go Faster (sole officer Mark Andrew Tortolano) was dissolved in 2013.

The forum felt ultra-cliquey back in the ifg/iafg days. I believe it was all bants.

It was, hence when those leadfoots got hold of it the motor blew a few weeks later  I was ridiculed for having to back off on the poor thing all the time. I still find I don't tend to "mat it" much even now, old habits and all that.

Porter was an active forum member back then, and he's clearly used early Evo forum activity for some material over the years. Along with all the tribal one make forums that sprang up. JGF was meant to be the antidote to all that, no nonsense and just get out there and do it.

Steveo went the same way as JL, Rev, etc... was addicted to posting and was getting more and more bitter so went cold turkey.

I was surprised when JL left, he'd calmed down a lot near the end and wasn't really getting in any arguments. Rev by comparison was pretty fired up at the end, and I can totally understand why he left.

I get JL’s to be fair. He just had a child and IIRC, there were logistical challenges to overcome with the child’s mother, residency in Dubai etc. Priorities and all that.

Rev’s was more of a surprise to be honest. He did seem to be getting more and more ‘angry’ but he’s obviously a super intelligent guy with an amazing clarity of thought. I would imagine that must have frustrated him immensely at times but at the same time, I’m surprised he couldn’t just go “ whatever... idiot” and get in with his day.

I was in the receiving end of barbs from both many a time but it’s all just banter so It never effected me. This place was better with both of them here.

I've just had a child, you still have bored moments where you need a bit of a diversion!

With Rev the arguments took him down a win at all costs rabbit hole, I agree that it's surprising that he let it get to him, but he clearly did... so he probably made the right call in leaving.

Arguing on here is totally not worth the effort.

Back in the day the forum was promoted, and they also let some of us 'contribute' and get our names in the mag credits as an 'it wouldn't have been possible without' (IIRC they'd wang you a mug, too - still got mine).

Porter was on here, and frequented the pub a few times down in London, he's as pleasant in real life as he comes across in Smith and Sniff, just a fairly genial, dry witted, very nice chap.

I still chat with JL and life with two kids under 3 kind of rules out a lot of the things we used to take for granted - including posting shit on internet forums.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.
