To be fair, most of that was labour, including getting to my hockey stick DRL and fixing a backing plate and the front spring was a pig apparently. Ho hum. I had the gearbox flushed a month or so back and next service isn't for a while......

Not too hard to get the trim off and the radio/hvac controls out, and I discovered someone had previously had radio out and not bothered to replace the screws. Luckily the wood trim piece keeps it all in place anyway, and this isn't the source of any noise.

I have not cured it, but I have found it, of sorts. If I get my hand in the left side of the where the hvac controls were and pull, the merest hint of pressure causes the noise. It sounds very much like metal on metal. It wil also do it if you apply upwards pressure to the bottom edge of the centre console int the footwell. I could not find where it's happening though. I think I'm going to have to have the whole centre console out.

Did manage to do an oil and filter change as well though, so that's the final piece of engine bay maintenance done for now.

928 is currently at Strasse having new rear springs fitted and ABS sensors cleaned. I needed to replace the courtesy lights as two are broken (there's two in the roof and one in each door). The original Hella ones are £75 each but the ones from the 2009 Golf/Passat/Bora are an identical fit size wise, have a better switch action and are more reliable. More importantly, they are less than £10 each, so I'm replacing all 4. The connectors are different so I've ordered a set of connectors and tails to wire them in. I'll upgrade the bulbs to LED while I'm at it.

I've got the same set.

I've got a cheap shit halfords one that bends on most clips. I just use a flat blade screwdriver with a microfibre wrapped around the tip these days.

I use my nails as I'm too lazy to find the trim kit. Then after a few times my nail starts to tear and separate from the fleshy bit it sits on and it stings like a bitch. Then I go and find the trim kit.

V60 big service done at the weekend.
New oil, air, fuel, pollen filters, new TMAP and Intercooler Boost Sensor as they were caked, new TCV as they seem to get slow to react over 80k as I found with my T5, and it's sweet as a nut

Pulls well upto about 3800 rpm before noticeably running out of puff now was just after 3k before which wasn't right.

Off for a recall on the seatbelts on Saturday and the ECM upgrading as there's a bulletin out about the p0299 error code and its not been to Volvo since it was a year old, so it can't hurt.

Bought a R Design twin exhaust, and some Axion wheels for it as I like the design, not sure whether to go for B12 shocks and 35mm lowering springs, or coilovers but it definitely needs lowered.

Also, it shall be mapped, oh yes, it shall be mapped.

It's amazing how much power corrupts, it feels so slow if I get in it after being in the XF, but, its a lot more economical, and a much smaller engine so not to be unexpected.

It sounds great for a diesel though, D5 sounds almost as good as T5!

Picked up the 928 from Strasse. They basically stripped down and rebuilt the rear suspension as one of the rear shocks had been fitted the wrong way round. New springs fitted and it now rides really well. They tested the ABS sensors and they all checked out fine - they suspect the wiring harnesses (especially the off-side rear) are causing the issue.

I didn't want to spend any more money on them investigating the issue as it could run up a huge bill pretty quickly, so I'm going to try and source some decent second-hand harnesses or maybe get someone like Kroon to make up a new set and go from there. I've got until September when the MOT is due to get it sorted (or remove the ABS bulb from the instrument cluster ).

I’m minded to get the junction box and brakes done and leave the suspension for now. I guess it can’t be a surprise on an old and heavy car.

Brakes make me angry. They're one of the easiest things to DIY. I bet you could do that for ~£200 of parts from ECP & an afternoon of your time.

If they're going to guarantee it and replace everything that blows up if/when it next leaks, that might be a bargain. Otherwise drill a hole in the bottom so the water drains back out and keep your fingers crossed.

If they're not failing an MOT I'd leave them until they are.

Jag XF diesel. 130000 miles so the suspension being knackered is not a surprise

Why on earth are you even taking a 130k mile XF to Jaguar? Any ok jag indie would be more than qualified to do any of that. I'd even question if it needed a jag specialist indie tbh.
