Shocked that he survived - that was a huge crash. The rider could have been going 5mph and the outcome would have been the same - the driver was a complete twat. the rider did zero wrong - if anything he did well to even react in the time he was give and get on his brakes plus he was wearing the right kit.

I reckon the car could easily have made the corner, just another thing that cunts seem to do which is to take the ‘racing line’ even when they’re driving at nowhere near fast enough to require it.
It’s getting more prevalent too. Nothing worse than being stuck behind a car doing 40 in a 60 and you can’t overtake them either because they keep wandering over the line

Always remember a bit of the road craft articles (or whatever they were called) in EVO mag a fair few years ago, going over some basic 'quick road' driving techniques. One that always stuck was when taking a bend to come out as wide as possible and cut the apex of the bend as late as possible to reduce the chance of this happening.

I'm sure you weren't the only one. I wasn't sure I'd make it all the way through but glad I did, e.g. the comparison between the different driving groups' approaches.

There are now chevrons in the direction of that incident. While I generally dislike people blaming the road, the lack of signage there seems unusual to me (to you).

Only watched the first one so far and it’s and interesting look at that piece of road. I wonder if the drivers defence went into any sort of detail like that?

While the road and lack of warnings are far from ideal, it’s not unusual for a country road, and it’s hard to get away from the fact that you should only drive as fast as you can see. If you don’t know the road, and cart see that it definitely goes straight ahead you have to assume there could be a sharp bend.

That’s not trying to be holier than thou, I’m sure we’ve all had moments or made mistakes and got away with a few things.

Roads may get safety improvements after accidents, but that never acts to exonerate someone from a crash like that. Driver is in control and therefore at fault.

Got the answer to whether it’s faster to cycle or drive to work this morning.

I passed a woman from the HR dept who lives round the corner from me leaving the street this morning and met her at the front door of the office

yeah, i have a 17 mile (or 25 miles if i use the motorway) journey to work. it takes between 40m-1hr usually (my best late night run was under 30mins).

My fastest bike time so far has been 42mins. but even taking it easy, it only takes about 50 mins.

we’re moving office soon and we have nice new showers with towels provided, so i’m going to try and take advantage of that and ride more.

When I had a 14 mile commute across London it was a solid 1 hour (i.e. 50m - 1h10m) on the bike and it was usually about one hour in the car too.

The main reason I preferred cycling was becauase driving could quickly extend to 2 hours if there was a tube strike, roadworks, car crash, etc etc and that would drive me utterly insane. On the other hand, the worst case scenario on the bike was getting a puncture, and that only adds 10 mins onto the journey anyway.

Do you ride all year?

I usually ride between the clock changes so March to October, been chilly this week though.
