That's excellent info, Harry thanks very much.
I'm just about to start a new job with an hours commute each way, are they overly noisy on the motorway? I've been driving a 25-year-old Nissan Pulsar for the last 9 months, so our perceptions of noisy might be different
GTI-R? Had a less fruity Almera GTI and Primera GT, both were brilliant.
Nice colour combo:

Run away, the seller refers to the car as Ralph in the first few words of the advert - clinically insane.

Maybe the name is an indication of the owners driving standards.

I think 'Eric' is a better name for a 'Grale than Ralph is for an Alfa.

If I’d thought about it more and hadn’t had to suddenly clear space it’s what I should have done with parts from my saloon and the silver compact I had.
Annoyingly, I thought I’d done well on the sale of that at the time but now looks like id have to spend more than I got for it just to buy another standard one in as good a condition.
The blue targa rally one posted earlier in the thread has now been dropped to £1250 which is a bit more realistic.

That’s basically a Z3MC in hatchback form isn’t it?

Some quick googling suggests that the E36 compact would be a bit lighter - 1465kg for the Z3MC, 1290kg for the heaviest E36 compacts. Throw a bit more weight in there for the engine and box and I suppose they'd be a little closer....

I doubt he’d accept my theoretical offer of about £4500 (as it’d cost another £500 to get home, probably)

No, I sold the silver compact but regret not making an m3 compact by combining it with the m3 when I had the chance.
