Re: Trump
Does it not have to be Kamala due to some regulations about campaign funding? I might have heard that wrong though.
Let’s be honest, there will be people who may now not want to vote for a black woman, so I’d imagine with this and last weekend, Trump is a cert for The White House.

Re: Trump
Michelle Obama better not happen because Hillary Clinton proved that the US is sick to the back teeth with political dynasties. They'd be absolute fucking morons to even suggest her.
Newsom seems more likely to me. Kamala might not be too black for America (after all, they had Obama), but she's probably too progressive for the democrat party politically, and definitely too woman, for the US public. As has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread, despite their protestations, on the whole America is more racist and sexist than us.
It's a bit of a shame, because I think if Harris were nominated and did a debate with Trump, it might single handedly destroy his entire campaign. She's a former lawyer, so completely undermining your opponent publicly in front of people who are judging you is sort of her schtick, and she is reportedly very good at it.
That said Biden has endorsed her, so you never know. Maybe seeing the (cough, cough, ahem) """"left""""
resurging in the UK might give them some confidence in pushing a candidate who, you know, isn't going to die in office from old age and is actually what could reasonably be described as progressive.

Well that's a bit of a gamble! It is the right thing to do, but talk about rolling the dice against high odds.

I believe the campaign funds are only for Biden and Harris, if they pick someone else then they will have to start all over with raising funds. But I think there’s enough millionaire/billionaire nutters that it won’t matter too much.Ascender wrote: Sun Jul 21, 2024 8:16 pm Does it not have to be Kamala due to some regulations about campaign funding? pretty crazy that it’s the funds that are the important factor in selecting a leader for a world superpower…Mito Man wrote: Sun Jul 21, 2024 9:22 pmI believe the campaign funds are only for Biden and Harris, if they pick someone else then they will have to start all over with raising funds. Re: Trump
In situations like this, parties are exposed to the possibility of implosion as new candidates scrap. The only option to me seems to be Harris, and the sooner they unite behind her, the better chance they have.
I don't think it's a bad thing that's she's a woman in this situation, if she runs a good campaign add in that feeling of something new and different might just get a few more votes. Although one can never underestimate how racist and misogynistic the continues to be.

Would love to see her utterly destroy Trump in a debate.
If they’re allowed to actually debate and not just have him shouting soundbites over the top of everything.

Re: Trump
I think this could end up being a real problem for the Republicans, especailly now that Trump is suddenly going to be the old man in this race. Although he has always directed his 'crooked' allegations at the entire Democratic party so it's irrelvant who runs, he'll just keep saying the same carp. However, all the focus (as per the tweet that SJ posted) has been on Biden being incapable and almost as if the Republicans didn't plan for what would happen next if Biden did stand down.
Re: Trump
Harris has been pretty bad in a few of her speeches.
Famous for starting a story with no middle or ending.
Quite a few historical bits of dodginess.
Was there any politician from any side who legitimately has no backstory of any kind apart from a political service ?
Dave!
