This reminds me - I saw a couple of E92 M3s a couple of days ago and they really do look just so right. I've vowed my next car will be a V8 but have disregarded the E92 M3 on the grounds I've spent 9yrs this year in an E9x and I'd like a change of scenery. But I do have a real soft spot for them...

Chris Harris's review is pretty meh, I thought. The engine just feels like a more powerful M340i, the gearbox isn't as good as the old DCT and it's less angry and lairy than the F80. It's 'mighty competent'.
I took the review to be more positive than that. Yes, it may be more composed and less lairy than the F80 but it'd be an epic daily. The engine in my car is superb. Power everywhere and revs to just over 7k. Now add another 170bhp. I'd love that! Talk about epic useable performance. The steering was highlighted also and Catchpole said he preferred the autobox.
I know the motor isn't a rev happy NA lump but it's just got so much grunt. I'm sure anyone who's driven something a B58 motor would agree that it's a very effective thing.
As Harris said, an M3 Xdrive wagon would be superb. Ugly mug aside I'd agree completely
Upcoming project from retro power (Gordon Murray escort people). Was it @mik who had a thing for these?
They can FRO and GTF at the same time when it comes to this bout of turd polishing.
Did you notice they were doing 2?

I did love mine, even using it daily for 12k+ miles a year it still felt special.

I don't mind the grilles anymore. In fact, I like it. The M3/M4 are getting very pricey but at least you can get big discounts.

75k is just too much for these isn’t it, a wagon with options is going to knocking 6 figures with depreciation like a cliff.
Suppose it’s all irrelevant, 6 grand down £1200 sheets a month

Why is a wagon going to be £15k more than a saloon? The Touring body adds about £1800, the xDrive adds about the same - so you'd expect the Touring to start at about £77-78k. Yes, a lot - but with BMW's customary £10k+ discounts for taking finance it starts to look sane.

The press cars are all specced up to about £85k, so somewhere under £90k for a similarly loaded Touring, before discount.
Yes, it's a lot but it's not 6 figures and the standard spec includes things like extended Merino leather so spending £10k on options is mental.

They look so much better in real life. They photograph terribly, don’t think it helps when car photography is usually taken very low down, rather than camera at eye level

I’m just watching the Carwow RS4 v M3 video. The RS4 bring discounted to under £60k before options, compared to £72k for the M3 saloon, means I have revised my view a bit. It’s still not going to be 6 figures for a loaded M3 Touring but it’s going to be a lot more than an RS4.
However, I saw a new facelift RS4 today and it looked rubbish. Not a patch on the B8 version or even the pre-facelift B9. So Audi will need to discount them a lot to sell them.
