Car now in at the bodyshop but apparently they can't get round to it for around 3 weeks so I've lost use of it for over a month, including a week of holiday time when I was planning to use it frequently.

It hasn't got firmware. The volume knob doesn't work properly so it's got infirmware.
MAFs might be last Beany but he's changed car and I haven't*.
*I quite fancied the Insight I posted. It's now sold...and on ebay for £1k+ more without anything done to it

I experienced range anxiety today. You don't have to have an ev to do so, just have your aux belt tensioner poop itself and fall out the bottom of your car. No battery charging (or pas), no idea how much charge the battery has, and 173 miles from home has a similar effect.
You did 170 miles in a car with no alternator?
I'd have said you'd be lucky to get 30 in something with an electric fuel pump and an ecu!
Yup, and while an older car with few gadgets it does have an ecu. I'm not sure if the fuel pump runs continuously or just when starting, and I didn't have to start it because I didn't turn it off; it was running ok when I pulled over after the dodgy noises and bit falling off, looked under the bonnet and there wasn't anything to cause another problem so carried on. I wasn't sure how charged the battery was, didn't know if it'd make it even if it was fully (it's only an 063), so heading home was intriguing. Radio and blower fan off were a given, the only other way I could think to save power was by using the lights as little as possible, which in daylight means avoiding indicating (like the plebs

) and braking (easy enough even without working pas).
In other news, nothing obvious re A2 misfire. That's going to be a pita then, and probably nothing that major when found. I'll get a proper diagnostic on it and look at the logs.
Lucky it didn't drive the waterpump as well!

Yep
For sure I had a result.
It might not get fixed for a little while, I don't have anywhere undercover or even shaded to work on it. Frustratingly pleasant air atm and still 19°.

Given you are on the night shift with me, where are you based?

Not Star Lane I trust? We were in Rushey Green - between Catford and Lewisham before we left for Aus.
What about you @nuttinnew?

I was referring to Footscray Aus, I thought you'd moved near there, not that you were from Footscray UK
I'm 20ish miles from there (in Aus terms 'on the doorstep'), not far from Ebbsfleet Eurostar/Bluewater.

So, both front dampers are shot - ordered and will collect Fri, fit Saturday. Have ordered a spring compressor too.
The front right wheel bearing is shot. Collecting that tomorrow from ECP. That requires a special tool to fit which I've ordered from eBay and is arriving on Friday.
Whilst I'm doing the front dampers I'll swap out the turret bearings because they're grinding a little. Collecting tomorrow from ECP.
The thermostat has failed open - will pick up a new one on Friday and fit on Saturday.
The swirl flap control solenoids are playing up. Some switch cleaner on the contacts has sorted them for now but will order up some replacements from ebay for fitting as it throws a P2008 error code when they act up and power goes down enormously.
The car is shit.

The thermostat kept triggering the CEL on the 6 series so I gave that in to be replaced today along with valve cover gaskets, all the coolant hoses which are easily accessible, spark plugs, gearbox oil and filter and front brake lines.
All routine stuff really apart from the brake lines and gasket but the mechanic said the gasket should be quite straightforward unless the fragile Vanos sensor breaks which in itself costs £500 so here’s hoping it doesn’t break.
With the constant servicing on that and the Defender I’ve only had my Mito to drive for the past 6 weeks which is getting really really tedious.

Why not fix up the 6 and sell the Mito? Sure you'd have to change your username but surely the 6 and the Defender would cover all your needs?

when you do a long useful list like that, mention what car it is! My memory can’t remember everyone’s current ride!

Fair point. Car is still the ''07 Mondeo that I picked up as a 'quick and temporary' in Jan 16 when my last car was written off by an Amazon delivery driver. Bought in haste as I needed to remain mobile. Repenting at leisure as something new breaks every week at the moment.
Saving in earnest to replace it with something decent, but currently re-evaluating my needs as my mileage in my new job is a little higher than I imagined it would be. (16k ish pa total)

I need the Mito for around London really, it’s small dimensions have been especially useful these past 12 months for squeezing into tight hospital parking spaces. Can’t really fault it as a city car though.
