Dude, you have a soldering iron right? Do you remember watching me fix it before? Any chance you can just do that again?DeskJockey wrote: Wed Feb 24, 2021 8:57 pm Finally got round to fitting the radio I bought for the Galaxy and after much swearing and coaxing of trim and plugs and whatnot I can report that the new radio is... broken.![]()
Display is broken, it lights up, but no data is displayed. Sigh.
So, have started a refund with eBay and will ship it back to the seller.
As the old radio has once again become possessed I had to take it out, meaning there is no radio at all. If the seller can't supply a working replacement, I will have a think about a non-OEM solution.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Well I've just finished my first full tank of Diesel. Managed to get 60l in as per the 1st time I filled up and I've done 527 Miles.
So just about 40 MPG, and all local other than the 55 mile journey home from picking the car up when I bought it.
I've put BPs fancy diesel in rather than V Power this time, doesn't seem any louder or quieter, and I've no idea if it was cheaper or not, or even how much it cost at all as I didn't get a receipt, but I can get used to this economy for sure!
I do miss that 5 Cylinder noise and all the fun dump valve and turbo noises in tunnels though, diesels are no fun to listen to

Exciting Panda news, boring black key shell swapped for exciting chequered version.

Is that the XF? How big is the fuel tank - must be a bit more than 60l?16vCento wrote: Wed Feb 24, 2021 11:16 pm Well I've just finished my first full tank of Diesel. Managed to get 60l in as per the 1st time I filled up and I've done 527 Miles.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Yep it's the XF.
Fuel Tank is 68l apparently but i filled it up when I bought it, as the fuel level low warning was on, and it had about 90 miles of range left.
And this time it had about the same range left and it came on again and it took the same amount.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Fuel lights in diesels annoy me - they seem to come on with about 10l left, which is ~100 miles. I've had cars with barely more than double that in range from a full tank! Plenty of EVs have not a lot more than that from a full charge...
Re: Your fleet running reports
My Mazda 6 says it's on 0 miles left, and then reduces power(!), but I can only get around 56l in with a 64l tank. I'm not bothered about the cautious display but don't reduce the power.
Re: Your fleet running reports
I always thought running a diesel on low fuel was a bad thing so assumed this dictated the threshold.
Superb tank is 68l iirc. 100 mile's showing when light comes on.

Re: Your fleet running reports
There are at least two gallons left in my Merc when the range display stops showing the miles to empty and just shows 'refill'. It does that when the range drops to about 30 miles remaining. The warning light comes on at 60 miles remaining (approx 3 gallons left).
Re: Your fleet running reports
Its an old generalisation that has not applied for decades in UK/EU.Shlergen wrote: Thu Feb 25, 2021 10:01 am I always thought running a diesel on low fuel was a bad thing so assumed this dictated the threshold.
Combination of poor fuel filters that were not changed frequent enough and dirty fuel could cause clogging.
Re: Your fleet running reports
I think in most cases running a diesel out of fuel isn't as simple a fix like refuelling and cranking the car until it starts. It may require bleeding which is maybe why they have a greater reserve tank.
How about not having a sig at all?

Re: Your fleet running reports
Yeah it's not a good idea running g a modern diesel out if fuel, especially when the HPFP require fuel to lubricate it and they have such fine tolerances.
JLR have always had a low fuel strategy on all V6 TDs since the first 2.7s came out in 2004.
If it gets below 5l it introduces a fake misfire and eventually will shut off the engine before it completely runs dry to stop any issues.
I've seen a couple that were completely dry before software updates were introduced and they weren't happy, one came back for a hpfp and all the injectors replacing due to swarf from the hpfp breaking up and filling the fuel rails and injectors with it, not a cheap job!

Audi rely on a fuel level sensor.16vCento wrote: Thu Feb 25, 2021 11:00 am Yeah it's not a good idea running g a modern diesel out if fuel, especially when the HPFP require fuel to lubricate it and they have such fine tolerances.

If you know of any cars from the last 30 years that don't rely on a fuel level sender let me know

ETA: even that seems to have a gauge which must rely on a sender, though people seem to recommend a dipstick: http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.ph ... e-accuracy
