It does still need lowering quite badly.

£1000 bodywork and welding and only dings and scrapes are letting the side down now, rather than fist size rust holes. It does still need lowering quite badly. Rolling restoration innit. It'll happen one day.

Great to be back in it though. I sorted the tracking this afternoon too, so the Merc emblem on the wheel is finally facing the right way up when on the motorway :D

(Very) poor man's Rolls-Royce I reckon. Radio 4 has never sounded so good 8-)

Caterham also passed its MOT today, no advisories!
As i don't own a car i have been perusing all sorts in the classifieds and W124s have piqued my interest but seem tricky to put a value on. They seem to range from £800 to £15,000 with no rhyme or reason why

Or double that on occasion:

Facebook groups are very entertaining, lots of awful taste modifying going on all around the world with only a smattering of people doing the job properly.

If it had been pictured on a white background I’d be there right now asking them to take my money.

The Scirocco's mpg has been plummeting over the last week, it had been holding stable for months at the 32mpg mark, in the next couple of days it will be down to 22, commute hasn't altered.

Ah, would I notice a drop in power as I don't seem to have done?

Alas I was indulging in ancient forum lore. Or was it a vacuum leak 😳

See now I don't know if serious or not!

I would put that in the serious category.

Yeah, if the engine is running cool it'll drink more fuel - modern cars are quite sensitive to running temperature, and on top of that, often have active thermostats to keep them in a very narrow running temperature range where they are most efficient.

It's definitely worth a look if you have access to someone with whatever VagCom the 'roco needs (it'll likely have controls to activate, deactivate, and read the actual values for the 'stat)

Well the engine comes up to temp as normal.

You actually seen the exact coolant temperature in degrees Celsius, or you just going by a guage that probably has a 20deg margin for 'centre of the dial'?

I'm not joking or being a twat, btw - temp gauges are a very loose guide to
The car is stone cold - don't thrash me
The car is warming up - the heaters will work now
The car is vaguely at operating temp and shouldn't explode
The car is overheating a bit - careful now
The car had just warped it's head and you're fucked.

From left to right on the dial.

Just because it's in the middle of the dial doesn't mean it's not running cold or hot.

I wouldn’t say a thermostat is serious - easy fix usually.

Of you have an OBD dongle you can see the Copland temp in DegC
