Initial impressions are the CarPlay module is very very good, the only glitch ones I have found is when you plug it into the USB charging port and try to play music- it seems to get confused and there’s a conflict between the external device wired integration and the CarPlay integration. I am using Tidal by the way.
Messaging, WhatsApp & google maps are all great.
Is this something you've added?

USB ports are generally for playing music and provide very limited current for charging. Get a decent charger which fits into the 12v socket and won't confuse the wireless Carplay connection.

Yeah I presumed there would be an aftermkt wireless pad that someone had developed I was going to look into that.

Heat, lots and lots of heat, plus gas, penetrant sprays etc and I’ve still got 9 stuck or snapped studs in the Defender exhaust.
I went to a machine shop today to ask them to take them out, they took one look at the stainless studs and said they need spark eroding which doesn’t appear to be available locally.
I will try tomorrow but my cobalt drills didn’t like my first attempt at drilling what appear to be diamond studs.
I fucking hate stainless bolts on exhausts and they should be sent to the pit of hell for using them.
Dave!

Opened up the MX5 today to find it very damp, smelly and mouldy. Passenger seat was very wet.
Not sure whether it's leaked or just condensation that got progressively worse. I reconnected the battery and as always it fired immediately. I ran it for 15mins , cleaned it up, then had a trip to the local recycling center to dump some tat. Kept windows down and gave it a good spanking

(purely to get plenty of air into the cabin of course)
Needs some regular usage methinks. Sad to see it like that.

Sale agreed on the 530d (deposit taken, bank transfer tonight, collecting tomorrow).
A very good car that never quite did anything interesting enough to endear itself to me. And the seats weren’t very comfy.

Cheers Steve - I remember you saying the headrests pushed your head forwards, and thought I remember you saying it was a bit dull when you replaced it. Which accords with my feeling about the F11; I’d not go as far as to say it was bad, just characterless.

Mito rattle cured. Was indeed one of the front subframe tensioning straps. It sits behind the back of the under tray and is only thin folded metal, was bent up in an arc and sitting a couple of mm under the exhaust down pipe. Close enough to rub on hard acceleration.
Noticed some of the braiding peeled back on the exhaust flexi too which is the lowest point under the car. Joint itself looks undamaged though.
Might wind the suspension up a bit if I’ve still got it next winter

Took the mini out for its regular blast as its mainly used for short journeys. The air feed pipe that goes into the airbox keeps popping out however I've a k&n typhoon on the top.

Whether the air mainly comes in from the feed or top of the k&n I am not sure - was looking at getting a bigger bonnet vent.
The suspension probably needs looking at as well as its a bit soft. Still such a great little car and has enough go to be fun.

I thought the bonnet vent was cosmetic on these, a Cooper S styling nod to the 1st-gen supercharged version when it was actually functional ?

This is the one to have if you are going for all out performance

As you can see it directs air from the scoop onto the filter.
This is the larger bonnet scoop option but they are a bit spendy

Bonnet vent is cosmetic only on standard ones, its blanked off
I looked at all sorts of induction kits when I had mine, but I never needed one and mine was quite a lot more powerful than standard!
No point tuning these without a LSD really, trying to apply full power in 1st, 2nd or 3rd unless it was dry and the wheels were pointing dead ahead, just led to a lot of wheelspin and not much forward motion.
Was still fun though

It does run a bit hot and as we can see not all of the scoop is open.
Re power you're right on tighter corners in the wet. I think looking at keeping the front end down will help with either strut brace and harder suspension. Cars on 88k so probably worn a bit.

Thats odd, mine was definitely 100% blanked off on my 2007 Hatch, all that vent can do as standard is coat the coils in water in the rain I imagine if its opened up?
I had a bigger airbox as standard as well as mine had the JCW engine package, apparently helps them breath a bit better.

Probably right for your model, this is a lci n18 late 2010. Also has a jb+ tuning box so around 210bhp on a cold day

Mine was 251hp after being fettled iirc, I think that was the cause of it killing 2 HPFPs though
Went like fook when it could actually get the power down though!

Yes I can see that being a handful
I look at the amount of money you can throw at these but as you say it's pointless without an lsd and even then it wont be super quick by todays standards. But I think thats missing the point.
I wouldnt dream of doing over 130 in mine, I'm sure it does it but is far too frightening.
