Collected the 335d yesterday, just as the North East had a foot of snow!

The rear tyres were part their best but another set was chucked in, Bridgestone OEM run flats but I think I will just sell them and chuck on a set of Michelin P4S’s Costco offer on just now saving £100 so that makes a difference. Will flog the current tyres.

When I swapped from Continental to Michelin’s on the 911 the rears were a good 50mm wider, if the same applies here I might get into serious scrubbage issues and have to get smaller spacers

Any recommendations for tyre foam and compressor pack for the car or are they all much of a muchness?

The car still feels very RWD and goes sideways on demand

Roll on torque is great, a lovely cruiser, LED headlights are tej awesome and the HK stereo seems noticeably better then the M140i versions.

Very happy with it, even the kids like it

Recently replaced the rear tyres on the 530.

Because the car is so bad at coping with large bumps, potholes etc. I decided to ditch the runflats. (The whole car shakes and it takes a second or so for the car to regain composure, whereas the Audi just takes them in its stride).

So I went for Dunlop Sport Maxx. Initial impressions are good. The rear seems less harsh over such bumps.
Unfortunately the fronts seem good as new, so some time to go before I replace those too. Never seen such difference in wear rates front to rear before, even with the Exige.

Damn, I chose them over the alternative Pirellis PZ4 mainly because it seemed the Pirellis wear rate would be so high...

I'd be surprised if are worse than PZ4, I am comparing to Avon ZX7 and Goodyear iffygrips.

So a bit of home schooling.

Then decided I really fancied a BBQ steak, so cooked them.





Then ripped into the Defender.







Couldn’t believe it, 2 seized bolts but otherwise came apart really nicely, honing marks still great, cylinder head crack free and in incredible condition. Can’t believe my luck. I’m going to struggle with the bottom pulley and if the keyway in the crank is all ok then it’s time to rebuild it all!! Incredible condition for 248,000 miles.

It looks like when the belt/ pulley failed I had 2 valves kiss the pistons and that’s it, didn’t even touch the metal just the carbon. Despite other bent pushrods there aren’t witness marks.

I was expecting the bottom pulley to give me trouble so fuelled up

Got the 2 snapped bolts out today, removed the pulley without using a hand grenade and the keyway in the crank is perfect.

So hybrid turbo, partial rebuild and a few modifications to make the work worthwhile.

It was a very lucky failure as failures go. I will keep pressing on with this engine but try to improve it.

I've done 140 since the last MOT on 20th June. Slightly better I guess.

Like a lot of people, I just don't go anywhere any more. I've not been to the office since mid-March. Our food shopping gets delivered. We're not allowed to go and visit people. For the very occasional local errand it's just not worth the hassle of getting either of them out of the garage.

And I never seem to fancy "just going for a drive".

Life is quite messed up right now.
