My house sale just fell through, under 3 weeks to go, and an expensive house as well
After missives? I've seen plenty of people asking about their transactions but for the moment they're still on; solicitors are functioning fine and as long as money can move there's no reason to try to break an exchanged contract. It could only ever be by agreement anyway; there's no implied right to break a contract due to an unforeseen pandemic.
I realise it is total hypocrisy to say this when I've been out for a 200 mile drive to collect an eBay purchase today, but the roads aren't as quiet as I expected and there are plenty of people out and about. The lockdown needs to be more draconian to be effective.

I was just about to put a place on the market right about now but that isn’t going to happen is it.
Can see ourselves retreating back to it in a month or so if situations worsen

Noticeably more traffic coming past my house today, and a steady stream of old folk walking to the shop. Madness.

Did they laugh at you and say it's worth 40% less than a shithole in Glasgow because COVID-19 ?

Am I missing something with the government financial support stuff?
Employees get 80% of their salaries
Self-employed currently under review and will probably get something beyond UC
What about the zero-hours people (especially in retail and hospitality), who've simply had their hours cut to nothing? They all seem to be getting FA, but I haven't heard anyone raising petitions etc as has been the case with the self employed ones

Technically, they’re supposed to be covered by the 80% thing but unscrupulous cunts are just ditching staff.

Very empty work car park today. But not the Omega Man experience I was hoping for on the roads
Omega Man for the uninitiated:

Not sure what contract she is on but my stepdaughter was asked to sign an agreement to be furlowed for 80% of her usual wages on the understanding she doesn't go to work, retains employment, doesn't get another job.
Much better option than just dropping her down to 6hrs a week.
I'm sure I heard something earlier about zero hour workers getting 80% of their usual earnings rather than their contractual hours.

Supermarket update - local Morrisons was much quieter than recent days. Lots of stock except loo rolls and hand cleaner. Not many people in. Sensible queueing. Staff cleaning their hands between customers.

I thought you were supposed to be a c... oh, you are!
Sitting on the motorway on my own in my car won’t have exposed me to much risk. The people outside my car, walking dogs in groups etc, not so much.

Specifically going against the government advice then moaning that the lockdown isn’t effective...
#Slow clap.
Kind Regards
A cunt.

In contrast, following government advice I went to the supermarket and bought food today. That was a far more risky thing to do because I came into contact with other people. The advice did not preclude travelling at all

Afaik that’s what you have to do to get the wage cover from the government. The company has to confirm that the staff have been furloughed and they aren’t working at all, then the government will pay the company.

You can’t survive without food, you can without winter tyres in spring.
The advice is there for a reason, don’t be a dick and just follow it.
