Trump
Re: Trump
It's ironic that the US had a whole war about gaining independence from a king with absolute power to do whatever they wanted without recourse, and now they have giddily approved making their presidents kings, who can do whatever they want without recourse.

Re: Trump
On the News Agents they were talking about how the US system doesn't allow the party to force a candidate to step down, so if Biden thinks he's good to stand, then he can stand. The sad fact is that his decision to remain as the candidate, alongside these gaffes, is slowly handing the presidency over to Trump...
Re: Trump
I listened to that this morning, having already seen reference to the Putin gaffe which would have been after they recorded. He's really got to step down; wonder when he will do so?Gavster wrote: Fri Jul 12, 2024 10:26 am On the News Agents they were talking about how the US system doesn't allow the party to force a candidate to step down, so if Biden thinks he's good to stand, then he can stand. Re: Trump
Yes but the 25th amendment could be invoked now to remove him from the presidency and install Harris now. Not clear what the legal practicalities of him running for office again after that happens but practically it would not happen.Gavster wrote: Fri Jul 12, 2024 10:26 am On the News Agents they were talking about how the US system doesn't allow the party to force a candidate to step down, so if Biden thinks he's good to stand, then he can stand. Interestingly the fact the Republicans are not clamouring for that surely means they expect that all the gaffes just bolster Trump in the long run.

Re: Trump
Don't forget that America as a whole is way more racist & misogynistic & right wing than we can comprehend. They think Starmer is "radical left"
There's a lot of Americans who will ignore absolutely everything and vote for whichever candidate isn't a black woman. Ditching Biden right now for Harris would hand the election to Trump on a plate. Nobody else has the reach & profile to engage voters in such a short timescale.
It's all a bit shit but the only way through this is for Biden to stay in, and win.

Re: Trump
It's also worth pointing out that Trump regularly gaffes, too but because he talks so much blatant lies, dogwhistles, conspiracies etc, it stands out less.
Imagine a caravan park, and a gas bottle goes up. Boom, it gets noticed.
With trump, the entire caravan park is already on fire, so when a gas bottle pops, it's not as dramatic or notable.
For clarity, I think Biden should drop the "ONLY I CAN BEAT TRUMP" ego trip and get the fuck out of there - he might have the right idea, but he's demonstrably a fucking liability to support and votes.
Get Bernie Sanders in there, he's got awesome mittens.

Re: Trump
I really hoped you were going to continue with, 'younger than Trump and Biden'

You're correct of course; but apparently the funding for the Democrats' campaign is tied to Biden and Harris, so nobody other than Harris could take over and use the campaign funds.
Re: Trump
I see someone's had a pop at him at a rally. Don't think they did a good job.
Following the SCOTUS ruling, can someone make a gif of Biden's face on the bad guy from Lethal Weapon 2, holding up a gun (instead of his ID) whilst saying 'presidential immunity'.
