I have not read far into it (I've seen the press reports of course) but there's a lie in the second sentence: "As a responsible government...". That will be the same government which sent the Art50 notification without having made any plans, and which has self-evidently been entirely unprepared throughout the process. Not 'responsible' in any normal sense of the word.NotoriousREV wrote: Wed Feb 27, 2019 7:54 am Terrifying reading (or Project Fear, if you enjoy being in denial):

But unfortunately a good part of that lies on the remain side as well. Philip Hammond is a prime culprit behind no-deal planning being behind schedule as he fought tooth and nail to deny funding to no-deal preparations.Jobbo wrote: Wed Feb 27, 2019 9:14 amI have not read far into it (I've seen the press reports of course) but there's a lie in the second sentence: "As a responsible government...". Anyway, I don't think it is looking as likely that no-deal will happen as it was a few weeks ago - even JRM is making noises that he can accept TM's withdrawal agreement with only a non-legally binding codicil that the backstop is not intended to be permanent.

I'm not expressing any views about Leavers or Remainers.

They're all a cunch of bunts. I have a special place in hell reserved for anyone who uses the words "Remoaner" or "Brexiteer".

I don’t think there’s much wrong with Brexiteer. It’s not inherently offensive and I think a lot of them think it gives them a rakish air.Jimmy Choo wrote: Wed Feb 27, 2019 11:04 amThey're all a cunch of bunts. Remoaner is just an insult and kind of implies Brexiteers haven’t spent the last 2 decades moaning about the EU.

I have no objection to Brexiteer. It has an 18th century adventurer vibe to it but if the people who use it were on fire in the car park I wouldn't waste my piss on them.NotoriousREV wrote: Wed Feb 27, 2019 11:38 amI don’t think there’s much wrong with Brexiteer. I would. Then I’d let them know that their shite exit tactics has meant the supply of beer has stopped so I’ve been unable to carry on and successfully put the fire out. Too bad.Jimmy Choo wrote: Wed Feb 27, 2019 12:21 pmI have no objection to Brexiteer. I still expect an 11th hour "we've solved it!" declaration from both sides with much back-slapping and gurning and proclamations of how fantastic they all are.
Not quite 11th hour, more like 10th hour.
Re: Bye bye Theresa
11:59 more like - there's no time to prepare for a deal, no deal or the withdrawal agreement (i.e. put in place the legislation) now so I can still see a delay to the Brexit date happening.

labour will vote against every possible option no mAtter what, so there’s no way we’ll have anything but a delay.Jobbo wrote: Tue Mar 12, 2019 8:12 am 11:59 more like - there's no time to prepare for a deal, no deal or the withdrawal agreement (i.e. put in place the legislation) now so I can still see a delay to the Brexit date happening.
Re: Bye bye Theresa
The thing is, Parliament has to vote in favour of delaying; if there's no motion passed, we leave in 17 days. So there's a risk that Labour bugger up a delay too.
It's May who got us into this mess, so the thread title may finally come true.

David Cameron got us into this mess. There was never an actual solution for it.

Re: Bye bye Theresa
Cameron asked the question, but he was forced to. It was May who triggered the leaving date without any plan for how we leave.

Arguably John Major got us into this mess.Rich B wrote: Tue Mar 12, 2019 8:24 am David Cameron got us into this mess. There was never an actual solution for it.

I definitely don’t want a 5000 word essay reply from GG, so I’ll just agree.

I think it was Henry VIIIs fault. He set the precedent by doing the first Brexit.
