I actually did that exact same thing to my wife years ago when we were driving in the US

We have a (physical) photo somewhere of the truck cab facing us (as it was bring towed)

I knew a guy who lost literally everything he owned in the Kobe one. Was living in the city, went out for the evening and it hit and demolished his apartment building. He was left with the clothes on his back and his wallet.

He had to wait a week for a passport to come home so he just volunteered at rescue centres, doing whatever he could.
