Re action films, I've just gone back and watched Mad Max Fury Road - has to be one of the best action films I've ever seen - stunning cinematography and utterly relentless from start to finish.
Cheers,

Mike.

Fury Road is brilliant. I’ve watched it about a billion times and I’m still not bored of it.

I gave up half way through.

I watched it at the imax and it was basically an assault on the senses. I watched it again after and it’s ok. The first Mad Max is far better imo, though obviously not the visual spectacle.

More from the Superbowl. Extended trailer and some behind the scenes.

I'm sooo looking forward to this. It's gotta be an IMAX viewing.

I’m not paying much attention to it as it’s a sure fire way to overhype it and then be disappointed as happens all too frequently with such films!

The Sisters Brothers

I love a western that tries to stay away from the usual western tropes. There’s no duels at high noon, or saving the girl. There’s a fair amount of very matter-of-fact violence and at least one scene that will make you cringe with disgust. This is a bit of a strange film: It’s kind of slow going but still keeps you interested for the most part. Part way through you feel like it’s dragging, but by the end you feel you’ve watched a great movie.

John C Reilly proves once again that he’s a vastly underrated actor, he blows Joaquin Phoenix off the screen (that’s not a euphemism) but at the same time they have great chemistry as squabbling siblings. Why he ends up doing so many shit roles is beyond me. In the past couple of years he’s done Sherlock Holmes that’s possibly the worst film ever made, Stan and Ollie in which he’s outstanding, and this.

The cinematography is amazing. It made me want to go to Oregon and California, until I found out it was filmed in Spain and France

I give it 8 spiders where you don’t want spiders out of 10.

It's worth seeking out all of the films by that director (Jacques Audiard) - they're all powerful in their own way with great performances. Rust and Bone, Read My Lips, A Prophet, The Beat My Heart Skipped, Deepan, and whatever else I'm forgetting.

Looks like a properly shitty weekend of weather ahead so thanks to US iTunes and Movies Anywhere there's a few lined up to stave off the boredom. Jojo Rabbit, Knives Out, Doctor Sleep and The Lighthouse. Go 🇺🇸

Wind River

Hawkeye plays a Park Ranger and Wanda plays an FBI agent investigating a murder on First Nation land.

Had loads of promise, moody, atmospheric, looked really good, great music etc and then BHAM!!!!! massive shootout and a whimpering finish. Disappointed.

Birds of Prey: etc

Really enjoyable romp. Feels like a proper comic book movie and the fight scenes are fun. The obvious problem is that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn doesn’t fit with Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.

7 comedy tampons out of 10.

I thought the first Birds of Prey trailer looked like utter dog shit, so was surprised to see the finished movie getting really good reviews.

Will be interesting to see what they do with The Joker as a character in the DC timeline now given he'll be an old man by the time Batman appears on the scene. Presumably he'll be recast as someone being inspired by Phoenix' character.

I don't think Joker is mean't to be canon with the rest of the DC movies. I hope not anyway
Spoiler
tying him directly to Bruce's parents deaths was incredibly dumb.

I hope it is just a standalone movie and they leave it alone.

I quite liked how they finished things up with it being someone
Spoiler
from the movement he's inspired killing them rather than it being him doing it.

Suicide Squad

WTF? Total bag of crap. I rarely stop watching a movie, especially if I've paid for it (£3 in this case) but we turned off after 10mins of this garbage. Not helped at al by Leto's Joker being pretty awful - probably made considerably more awful by Phoenix's recent turn as the character.
