Swapped the Fabia over to 14s and CrossClimates partly for the hell of it partly to use it in case it snows, and because they are the nearest thing I have to a gravel tyres for some shenanigans planned for February with Mr @Sundayjumper .

Went for a test drive and within 50 yards there is a strange rubbing noise. Took off a few old wheel weights that might have been catching on the brake calipers but no difference (& now they’ll probably vibrate as well).

It might be the brakes, maybe lack of use. I’ll try the wheels again that were on there before. But I’ve had a full set of 14s on before with no issues.

It always seems a shame to scrap mechanically sound vans due to rust. Looks very smart with the new wrap

Great work! - might as well play to you skills! You'd have had to signage up a new van too, so you can take that part of the cost off the Timculator for keeping this one going!

Ooh, I forgot about the Timculator! In that case, if you minus van rental, I'm actually up!

Problem found. The 14s are catching on inside edge of the pad. The 15s don’t have the issue as they have a different shape where they meet the hub. Previous owners must have never run 14s on the front with new pads.

Talk to me about spacers. 5x100. Wheels are ET38. 5mm should do it.

5mm is just a shim. Dirt cheap. Need to ensure your wheel bolts still have enough thread.

I've got some dirt-cheap eBay universal jobbies on the compact. They work fine. Or you can buy nicer ones.

You've got studs on your car already haven't you ?

Edit - these are only a few quid each. Might be worth buying some just to try out different combinations.

Yep, big feck off studs on the front.
Anyone with wheel protection OCD look away now.

Lights on the VW Up are absolutely terrible - recently I'm occasionally making the dash from Stourbridge->Telford down the A458 which is brilliant, especially during lockdown of an evening when the roads are quite quiet.

Unfotunately, it's difficult to enjoy it when the light spread is very, very short. It's a known issue, and replacing the bulbs don't help as it's the actual light pattern. Full beam is actually great on these though....but not for oncoming drivers.

I’ve been enjoying the quiet roads this weekend - making the most of it as after lockdown it’s going to be a shitshow with everyone Christmas shopping.

I am amazed by the grip provided by PS4S’s especially at this time of year - exiting a roundabout with 90 degrees of steering lock, mash the throttle and the car puts down all 300+ donkeys without a hint of wheel spin or traction control. The limit of grip is now so far beyond legal speed limits that once it does let go I imagine I’ll be backwards in a hedge before I’ve had time to soil my pants.

I wanted an exhaust for the S2000 to release a bit of noise but all of the aftermarket ones cost a bloody fortune so I thought i'd have a go at making one. There's a great exhaust place near me that'll make silencers to any size you want so I ordered 3 from them and a bunch of bends and got fabricating.

It took me bloody ages but i'm chuffed with the result, I was especially proud of the Y piece I made

Top work Pegleg and Dan! The van looks great and the Y piece is awesome. Will you be following Flewy's path and moving into metal sculpture?
