They are the massive 17"s rather than the puny 16"s on the pre facelift cars.

Looks like the steering rack was faulty in some way. They've taken one from a newer Sport they have for sale (looking on their website they have a 16 plate one for sale that's the same shape, the mk2, and lower mileage than mine, so it's probably that one)

That's awful. Unless it's had an engine transplant, it won't be a 5.0 V8 32V, it'll be a 4.7 16v. The 5.0 engine came in the S4 which didn't come out until 1987 in the UK.

Mate of mine picks up her brand new VW Golf 1.5 eTSI from the garage this morning. When she gets in, the car infotainment system does not load up. Then after they had fixed this (supposedly by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery), Apple Carplay doesn't load and they had to reset the infotainment again. Then two miles away from the forecourt, an error saying "emergency call, please visit workshop" pings up on the dash. Back to the garage again. Supposedly 'fixed'. Then another 5 miles later, an error saying the "driver alert system was not fully active" followed another mile later by "emergency call" again.

They are going to take it back to the workshop tomorrow but are quoting six weeks in the workshops to fix!

All a bit of a pisser given how exciting picking up the new car is meant to be...

Sounds like a lemon. I'd reject it.

Cancelled the insurance on Mito, I’ll just buy a new policy in January when the MOT is due - not like it’s going anywhere with this lockdown.

In more positive news I had a phone call today to say that the difficulty with my chainsaw hotstarting has been fixed with a software update so it’s a free repair and they’ve just stuck the map of the next model on so it will have a bit more power

I can’t claim flying colours seeing as it failed, but it failed a lot less than I was expecting so I’m still treating it as a win

Compact. Loose bolts on the diff, leaky exhaust joint messing up the emissions, and front numberplate too small. I knew about the ‘plate of course but was expecting fails for rust so didn’t bother changing it. So basically just a leaky exhaust.

Not bad for the whopping 250 miles it’s done since last year !

No advisories on my Defender MOT.

I’ll not be using it for work next month though so it’ll have an easy time. I’m supposed to be doing a job in Manchester and it’ll just get nicked up there

Yeah. Baghdad probably waaay safer than E Manchester to be fair

Replaced one of the rear lights on the boxster this morning, just need to buy one for the other. Had a quick blast in to the peak district where the whole world* is out walking or riding push irons. Cars abandoned everywhere. More people out there than were in pub beer gardens weeks ago. I somehow think noone is taking lockdown seriously this time.

In other news, a month or so ago I sent the cylinder head for my Elise away to be finished off after I ported it. I had the call yesterday to say its ready. Its had new colsibro guides, new seat inserts to accomodate the 2mm bigger than standard valves fitted and cut to suit with 3 angle seats. All I need now is for my custom crank to be finished and i'll be engine building at last.

Ooh yeah - great improvement.

Shims or bigger bolt-on spacers? (Assume the latter).
