How does that compare to eg an iPhone 7? Asking for a friend.Simon wrote: Thu Sep 13, 2018 5:24 pm The thing about the iPhone XR is that it's got a really poor screen resolution for a high end phone. Just 326 dpi, which is lower than just about any other high end phone on the market.

Re: New iPhones
Yes, it's the same DPI. Lower res because it's a smaller screen. The thing is that IMO that's now reasonable because the '7' is now a £450 phone, not a £750 one....Richard wrote: Fri Sep 14, 2018 7:21 amSameste wrote: Fri Sep 14, 2018 12:45 amHow does that compare to eg an iPhone 7? Re: New iPhones
Right, but I never look at my 7 and get concerned that the screen is fuzzy. Hmm.

I like how the XR camera is capable of recording 4K video at 60fps but the screen can't even display 1080p...

Re: New iPhones
Yeah because it's really unusual for digital cameras to take photos or videos at higher resolution than their screens can display

Re: New iPhones
Dunno, my GoPro has a full 4k screen on it.
Re: New iPhones
Question for current X'ers - how do you do what the home button does now on these phones?
You settle up, I'll go get the Jag.

In no time at all you get used to it and suddenly phones with buttons seem archaic.

Yeah, but most cameras aren't also devices that you consume content on, are they?integrale_evo wrote: Fri Sep 14, 2018 12:21 pm Yeah because it's really unusual for digital cameras to take photos or videos at higher resolution than their screens can display![]()

Re: New iPhones
There’s no disadvantage to video being higher res than the screens, it just means you can zoom in and/or crop it and it still look good.
Re: New iPhones
Right, cheers. I'm sure it does, like anything if you're sufficiently open to change. I really like the idea of the same size phone as my 8 Plus but with a bigger screen. It looks like Mous are already doing their excellent c/f cases for them too.

Re: New iPhones
which GoPro have you got?
Re: New iPhones
Hang on a fucking minute, wasn’t the whole point of the Retina display that the dpi was such that the human eye couldn’t make out the individual pixels when held at a normal viewing distance - hence - any dpi more than that is to all effects and purposes negligible to the human eye?
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: New iPhones
I actually can't remember what it's called. Hero 4 Black or something? However, it doesn't actually have a screen you can view video on, which was kind of my point.

It was bollocks then, and bollocks now
Re: New iPhones
It really seems pointless to loose all that screen space, for a home button
The home bar thing and the gestures are incredibly well thought out and natural feeling
Re: New iPhones
Not really. I find my eyes can't focus on the screen of an iPhone 7 when it's close enough to be able to discern individual pixels.Richard wrote: Fri Sep 14, 2018 3:54 pmYepMito Man wrote: Fri Sep 14, 2018 2:34 pm Hang on a fucking minute, wasn’t the whole point of the Retina display that the dpi was such that the human eye couldn’t make out the individual pixels when held at a normal viewing distance - hence - any dpi more than that is to all effects and purposes negligible to the human eye?

Can someone bring out an 8-bit phone? Marketable to hipsters and old people alike!
