I think with this they've gone too soon, there hasn't been a break between ceasing sales to having a relaunch. They should have waited a mo', stuff#ll get forgotten over Christmas and New Year. If they're going for a rebrand, next month is perfect for them.

Apparently they brought it forward because of the spy shots of the new car in testing.

Shirley Miami would have taken time to book/organize (I don't think they'd use organize), not something you could slip into with barely a hello?

Some interesting points from Aquadrome.

Yes, you can.
I think he's a bit optimistic with the concept possibly being (at least broadly) close to the production car, but I guess we'll see.

FWIW I agree - the TT concept was pretty close to a production ready - whereas the Jag appears to be at the other end of the scale.

The spy shots which Jaguar themselves released?

It's good work he's done, and a good discussion. I've never bought the lighting tech thing about the first XF though, not with how slim the lights were on the Calibra for example. Seeing the concept again does make it seem like a coupe was a missed opportunity.
The problem with overlaying the disguised proto over the concept is it gives the lie to "the proportions will be the same" (width and length excepted) and you end up with a normal silhouette, an understandable next-step evolution of an XJ. Squared off and bluff? XJ40, and look at current styling trends.
It'll be a big lump because it'll share FFRR undergrot, and by the same token we've seen how well designs can be tweaked to look fresh, clean but not bland, detailing making the difference, but this concept...can someone shrink it and make it a body for a Caterham?

The hardtop on the Roadster keeps that vibe alive;

Yeah, the light tech excuse on the jag zf is nonsense, there were cars with smaller projector beam lights way before, the actual light emitting part is the small black lens inside the monocle, the light could have been half the height with no issues.
Calibra, Alfa 155 and tvr Tuscan are all cars with slim or small headlamps which spring to mind without too much thought.

This is the bit I don't get. Unless they were literally selling so few cars it was costing them more money than it would to stop selling cars?
It's a bold strategy. Is there going to be a massive rush of orders when they announce their mainstream cars?

I think the big problem sadly isn't going to be the design, or the relaunch.
It's going to be that the car will be out of date when it's launched.
400 miles (ISH, in perfect conditions) range probably isn't going to be that competitive, and certainly not class leading, when it is finally launched in 2026> and the production car might not be that technologically advanced compared to whatever competition is out there at that point.
If they really wanted to reboot they should have done a GT/Convertible first, no one else who is established have done that yet, then follow up with a saloon/shatchback or whatever they want to call it once the brand has some buzz about it again.
I hope it works, the car looks great in a more normal colour, but I think it might be the wrong way of doing it.

Jaguar's bog problem. In 2016.

The bog is only a slip of a finger away at the best of times I suppose.

I thought I had, comparing it to Ma Twatson, but evidently no diggity.
