@ZedLeg - I haven't - will give them a listen ta!
@Sundayjumper - Oh now I hadn't spotted them in the line-up One of the greatest acts I've seen live for getting the crowd up for it.

I think we saw them support Motorhead and Anthrax. At first we were thinking "wtf is this?", along with most of the crowd. Within about5 mins the entire crowd was bouncing. Anthrax hooked on to that and took it further. One of the best gigs I've been to.

Ok - early highlight for me is Heilung. German Neo-folk music. It's some crazy stuff. Like a prehistoric Rammstein
Re: Glastonbury 2023
Tonight’s Headline, Dua Lipa is 100% pop.
That may be what ‘da kids’ want to listen to these days but make no mistake, the entire festival has donned a leather jacket and is currently soaring on water ski’s over a shark tank

Whereas Heilung were about as traditional Glastonbury as it's possible to get. Scandi-German druids banging drums, throat singing, and dancing topless.dinny_g wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 10:47 pm Tonight’s Headline, Dua Lipa is 100% pop.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
Yeah but that sort of shit’s always been at Glastonbury.
Top of the Pops on the main stage, has not.

I don’t care. I would do many naughty things with her.
The headliners have been pretty shite for years imho, often waaaay past when they were exciting, or in some cases good.

Dua Lipa has been outstanding, I'll be watching it again at a more sociable hour with the volume a little higher

Just goes to confirm what Dara O’Briain says…
Music isn’t good or bad. It’s just sound waves going into your ear and triggering a neurological response.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
Yep. Was just reading about this. If you go back over the last thirty+ years there’s plenty of top 40 pop acts that have headlined. The only difference is that we were young when it happened in the nineties so they all seemed relevant.

Re: Glastonbury 2023
Heh, the first Glastonbury was called the “Pilton Pop, Folk and Blues Festival” so I guess pop is in its DNA.
I don’t think Coldplay should be headlining tonight though. Despite the fact they are absolutely amazing live, but five times? Really? Seems excessive, are there really not enough big headline acts around these days?

Re: Glastonbury 2023
That’s not really true at all though is it…
There have been 27 Glastonbury’s since 1990 - so that’s 81 headliners and the only “pop” artists are
Billie Eilish 2024
Adele 2017
Beyoncé 2012
And you could mention Kylie and Taylor Swift who were scheduled but didn’t/couldn’t play
5 out of 81
Pop acts, as distinct from popular acts (eg Coldplay, Ed Sheeran et al) are definitely a new thing and down to Emily Evis IMO

Re: Glastonbury 2023
I think you’re being a bit specific in your definition of pop imo.
If it’s electronic pop you have a problem with fair enough but the main stage has always been a pop music stage.

An absolute unit
Re: Glastonbury 2023
Look I get Pop originated from Popular but it’s developed into its own genre of music.
Loads of popular bands and acts aren’t pop and there are loads of pop acts that aren’t popular
At least in my opinion

Re: Glastonbury 2023
It’s radio friendly music, Ed Sheeran is definitely pop for example.
We can have dumb arguments about music genres all day but imo it sounds like you’re just doing the same thing that folk did when they booked Jay Z. Moaning because you don’t like it and using the fact that they use electronic instruments to justify it.
