Saying it can’t ever be done is different to not believing everything a lying bullshitter says.

We’re already 4 years overdue on his promised colony on mars 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’d believe most people on here’s knowledge of space and physics over elons tbh.

We will look down on the non believers as we sip space beer on our space bar on the way to Mars to watch space Alien Rocket Racing 😎

My dear non believers, your ways are quaint.

I certainly don't believe anything in terms of a predicted date, and when trying to solve these challenges it's pretty hard to accurately predict as you don't know which one is going to become a bigger challenge. Nobody has put anything out there that gives me the feeling it's technologically insurmountable though so far.

I'm just happy to see progress at a decent pace, there has been some really great stuff happen lately with JWST (some other good telescopes too which are less high profile), a bit of a race in terms of updating crewed flight, getting bigger payloads into orbit. All of it is progress. I don't really listen to what Musk says or specifically Mars, just enjoy the progress.

I’m sure we all feel the same duncs, we’re just pointing out that we’re unlikely to get much farther than we have already been within our lifetimes.

They’ll all get bored and start eyeing up asteroid mining before they get to mars anyway. After they’ve hoovered up all the stuff in the deep ocean.

If we can't make this work, on earth, I'm not sure how we're going to do it on Mars

But hey, I'm sure some magical tech will come along...
A "failed" experiment where you learn things isn't a failure imho.

That article had several lessons learned which is what any future self sustaining habitable system needs. Be it Earth, Moon, Mars, or Belter.

For director Matt Wolf discovering the history of this project made him realise that it was really a story about the entire world. These “unconventional visionaries” didn’t fail because of their unrealistic ambition, he said in a statement to the press, but instead, because it was started with eventual profit as a goal.

“Capitalism thwarts vanguard idealists,” Wolf added.
See, capitalism ruins everything.

Yes I am aware of the irony of posting this from a computer made in china

Potentially why Musk will succeed in getting to Mars, he doesn't need colonisation to be profitable. He wants to be God-Emperor of his own planet and be written into history as another von Braun.

That’s a whole other thing.

How comfortable are we with a guy who’s putting computers in people’s brains being 100000000 miles from oversight.

That’s how Doom starts

It’s about his company?

I’ve been talking about the specific problems with what he’s been claiming.

He’s the one talking shit that people are lapping up, it would be weird not to mention it

Apparently it's not "bullshit" it's "corporate puffery", so please continue to enlighten us Mr Musk...

I do find the attitude round Musk’s companies bizarre tbh. Everyone acknowledges that he’s a degenerate liar but still every bullshit unverifiable claim is met with frothy excitement and folk who are doubtful are jealous or something?

He doesn’t know anything you couldn’t figure out yourself. It’s not secret wisdom.

Once again Zed, we find ourselves curiously aligned...

Musk has 1 skill - backing the right people. He's not a visionary in car manufacturing, battery technology, space travel at all, he just picks people who are and gives them endless funds, funds built on Daddy's money
