Assume the deadline expired!? :D Sounds like a good opportunity for a fresh start, which must be exciting.

That's what I said. We've postponed the house move. Not because of the redundancy, but market conditions. Did go for a more senior role, but lost out to someone more experienced. Did more exercise.

Fresh start with money in the bank. My area is buoyant, so I'm confident I'll land something fairly quickly.

Cheers. Does feel a bit odd. Not had more than two weeks off in a row since 2009, and apart from when I moved to the UK and was looking for work (which was when I became active on here), I've not been without a job(s) since I was 11.

With a 100% success rate everyone I know who has been made redundant has either made more money or been much happier in their new job.

Best of luck. I took a few months away from work when I got married, they were being a pain over approving more than 2 weeks off to go to NZ, didn't fancy the work I'd be coming back to so just handed in my notice and figured it out when I got back.

If you're going for anything at big firms they can take a painfully long time to go through the apply/interview/offer/onboard process when you're just sat at home ready to go. Had people getting back to me months after I'd started at the smaller company I ended up at.

As a hiring manager at big corp I can confirm you're definitely not wrong. The process is glacial. See what happens.

Congrats and best of luck Alex!

Not sure if I'm on your list there, but I certainly qualify. 2015. Definitely not looked back since.

Alex - it'll feel a bit weird for a while but enjoy the time off :) You'll be be back to work before you realise it.

Simon wrote: Sat Jan 01, 2022 12:17 pm Well once again I've ended up carrying over a few days holiday into 2022. Adding in my normal holiday (29 days) carry over (4 days), BH days (8), and company wellness day (they give everyone extra days off because of the stress of Covid over the last 2 years), I will have 48 days off work in 2022. Which isn't too bad I suppose.

We did have someone decorate the dining room but he was absolute crap. Had new windows and boiler fitted, and aiming to put new wooden flooring throughout downstairs and decorate the lounge in '22'.

I suspect car conversations will continue around selling the C and the Yeti and replacing them with 1 car, (GLC, XC60 maybe), but really as we open back up again I'm going to be keeping a close eye on just how much we use both cars at the same time and if 1 is feasible.

Little one starts nursery in 9 days, just a couple of mornings a week to get him socialised a little as Covid has been horrible for him. Originally he was to go in September (3 in October), but he has a speech delay and wanted to get him mixing earlier to see if it helps him. Children from bi-lingual households usually do start speaking later, but it's a worry none-the-less.

Oh, and Brazil likely back on for some time middle of the year too. Let's see if Covid can fuck off once and for all.
Well I did have quite a few days holiday in 22. Again I've carried over some into next year, plus we're getting 'wellness days' again, so that should help to relieve the pain of work.

Car conversations did continue and as it happens going down to one car just won't work, as has been proven a number of times throughout the year. We need 2, end of.

Little one started in nursery, and we've finally managed to get a decent amount of support for him, from speech and language therapies to his autism help as well. He ramps up his attendance from next week too, so the wife will start to get more time to herself for a change.

We finally went to Brazil at the end of September, which was insane, particularly with a hyperactive 2-3 year old and meeting all my extended family for the first time.

My 2023 plans are simple at this stage, and that's about putting this family onto a firmer financial footing as we look to changes ahead.
Well seeing as some of you know from my FaceyB, our 2023 plans are partly to grow the family. Deb is pregnant again, and he/she is due in early August. So yes 'changes ahead'. You may remember my 'second child?' thread from last year and we decided to go for it and after a couple of false starts we're finally settled into the pregnancy and wondering where the hell everyone is gonna sleep...

My 'financial footing' plans are underway and successful so far. It's about playing a long game, but ultimately I see it culminating with me leaving my job and changing career totally and getting a lot more financial freedom. No, it's not Bitcoin.

The C Class and Yeti stay for the moment, but with the growing family I hope to see an E53 estate in my future and Deb would really like to move up to a GLC, plus we now need a bigger house so time to knuckle down and save up I guess.

2023 has started well for us. I've just got another promotion which makes me head of sales for £50m+ of our UK business. I now run a team of 7 with more to come as the year moves on. Remuneration is better still as is the benefits/rewards package. Lots of opportunities for further advancement too. I have some abroad trips with customers too which will be good and we've just done all three home games for the 6 nation's. Lots of fun stuff planned too.

We are looking to holiday over Crimbo again and are looking at S/East Asia as a destination now our daughter is a little older.

Also quite a significant birthday this year so need to decide what I want to do. Right now, I just can't decide.

330e is staying and has performed faultlessly over 40k mile so far. Wife's 320d doing the same. The 1990 MX5 needs some TLC in the form of a steam clean followed by any repairs and a good coat of dinitrol.

House still has jobs to be done. We will be enjoying the new patio and hopefully getting the garden done at some point as the wife has had a garden designer round.

Life is pretty good at the moment so we can't complain unlike a lot of people. Looking forward to the rest of the year.

It is to be fair. The only downsides this far are the stresses of more responsibility mixed with a little difficulty sleeping, or staying asleep. Being an old fart I do tend to wake up during the night, end up with work thoughts popping in my head and not being able to sleep again. I gave CBD gummies a whirl, just one in the evening and have been sleeping like a baby. It's bloody brilliant and whether it's psychosomatic or not I'm generally feeling pretty chilled. 😁

That's me as well. It's so fucking annoying.

I usually go to the spare room and listen to an astrophysics YT channel, I find the subject odly comforting and relaxing. I think my brain can't handle it so it makes me sleepy.:D
