He's not perfect - no politician is - but he got a lot of points from me by saying he'd resign over curry gate if the police found he was guilty of breaking the rules at the time.

Of course he could _also_ say that as he knew he didn't break the rules, because he's not a twat.

And as I say we're quite far apart politically but the Tories need a term or two in opposition to teach them some humility and the chance for the crackpots to either be kicked out or literally die out.

And I say all this as someone who's never voted anyone but blue in a general election (although I spoilt my paper last time).

I voted green last time and all I got was local roads closed in favour of cycle lanes. Better the devil you know unfortunately but a sharp reminder that it could actually be worse will be the next step.

How to show the whole world that you are totally out of touch with reality. Who advises these people?

Maths until 18 is a stupid fucking idea - I say this as a full-time teacher where part of my timetable is teaching maths.

Now changing the maths syllabus to include functional maths skills such as budgeting wages, saving for a big purchase, understanding debt and interest rates - kinda shit you wish someone had taught you when you get to that stage of life that it becomes necessary to have an understanding.

Yup, totally bonkers idea.

The only way he can redeem this is to say they'll keep re-teaching maths to 18 for those who didn't get a C at GCSE, so that everyone has the basics.

I think it's the logistics of this which make it bonkers - my son's mate did his GCSE's and is now doing an Electrician's Apprenticeship and is out on site and working away - how's he going to learn Maths for another 2 years??

In general however, I studied a lot of Maths in my time - to final State Exam level at the higher level and then in to University in parallel with Civil Engineering, earning a Degree in Mathematics, Statistics and Numerical Methods.

Now I'm not going to lie - I've never needed to use Laplace or Fourier Transforms in my day to day life but I know the analytical and problem solving elements that maths gave me in my youth are in use every day.

I think teacherboy has, not surprisingly, hit the nail on the head - a form of Applied Mathematics taken to GCSE is the answer.
