Suspension / bushes aren’t too much of a worry. Electrical gremlins and major engine / gearbox issues more so.

Probably won’t happen anyway, but I’m seeing what’s about. I’m quite fussy on colour and would prefer one without side steps.

I doubt my budget will stretch to the ones I actually like enough to want to buy

I like cayennes, but prefer how the bmw looks, and not sure I could buy a v8 when the turbo exists, which is a whole new world of potential massive expense and running costs.

I'm no longer doing a 1000 miles a month commute for my daughter so have started looking at something a bit more interesting.

Cayman R's seem reasonable value compared to GT3's or even any 997. There was a PDK car with standard sport seats in Belfast OPC with a 2yr warranty for sub 40k. I assumed it would stick, ripe for a bit of haggling but it went fairly quickly !

That led me onto discovering Cayman Sport Editions which were the mk1 R in all but name for not far off half the money. I've watched a couple at low 20s sell within a week.

I'm in no rush so will probably change my mind and end up with a Smart Fortwo

Surprising how flat the seat bolsters are, surely you'd want something to hold you a bit better in a Turbo.

Not yet. Need to sort some. And a cold start, even though it’s mainly induction noise, it’s growly!

I keep on coming back to either a 750 or a 760 bmw. There is one brand new v8 left and a handful of used v12s which have lost £70k in 2 years. Head says that a cheaper 740d would be 80/20, but heart says that the big engine petrol cars are literally peak BMW as i cant see EVs catching ICE anytime soon (if they do I will deny it ).

Whats the main differences? I always thought cayman rs were overpriced and probably still are.

Same diff, brakes, sports suspension, sports chrono, wheels, side graphics, webbing pull door cards.

The R was a 987.2 and had more power with 325v303.

The R is nominally 50kg lighter as it had no Aircon, media and lightweight seats but most customer cars had Aircon and radio added as options and lots have sports seats to gain heating like the Sport Edition.

SE had alcantara wheel and knob.

I can't recall them in period but the reviews of them at the time were great.

call them, messaging is a waste of time.

Anyway, finally got a reply of someone, it was actually the first that caught my eye and messaged about. It sounds good and he sounds like he knows what he’s talking about, and can use actual sentences. Going on Sunday for a look / buy.

I'm having another fallow car period. I would like to get another one, maybe springtime next year.

97.3% of the time I don't need a car, which makes it an expensive liability for the remaining 2.7% of the time. I rarely commute, and it's cheaper and quicker by bike/tube. Hiring/borrowing a car is far more efficient for the 4 times a year I really need one. In fact, not having a car means that I cycle more and use public transport more, which both have positive benefits, because cycling is exercise and I get to read on the tube which can be relaxing.

Based on my ongoing MINI adventure(s), I'd happily suggest a nicely specced Cooper S Clubman. Very practical/usable without being "big" and they're fun to drive too.

With this weekend's fuel debacle, if my Clubman still runs after I've drained & flushed it I'm very tempted to get rid for peace of mind (possible unseen damage in the fuel system) and switch to a Cooper S.
