I took the Civic out for a drive again last weekend but for some reason the exhaust seemed a lot louder, so loud in fact I had to go home again, it was bloody embarrassing. I was convinced something had fallen off or broken. It was too low to see properly so I got it in the garage (a massive faff as I had to push the non-running MX-5 out into the garden to make room) and jack it up to take a look. I did find a spot where it was blowing which I fixed with a new U clamp and some exhaust assembly paste, but after letting it set overnight it was just as bad so maybe that's how it is, or it's blown the baffles out of the silencer (the back box is the only silencer). I am thinking about putting an additional resonator in to see if that helps, but I don't want to spend a load of cash on it as it's only a 2in system and it'll need to all go in the bin if I turbo it. Whilst I was under there I put in some Hard Racing gear shift bushes I bought a while back, not sure if they've helped until I go out in it again, but at least the install was pretty easy.

On the up side it actually looks to be in reasonable condition underneath in terms of rust, I was half expecting the floors to have holes in them, but it looks like wheel arches are the main areas of concern, as they are with all 90's Honda's.

The wheels that are on it (some OEM Honda ones) are heavy as fuck, and the R888's on the front are well shot, the offside one is bald on the inside. I've got some hardly used 15in Oz Superleggeras in the loft that will fit, so I ordered some 195/50 Nankang NS2-R's from Tegiwa to fit to them, which showed up this morning.

I've been driving the iQ for about a month now and I'm really happy with it, minor niggles are not having indicators that flash a few times when you push the stork down but not far enough to latch it, and the CVT gearbox gets its knickers crossed sometime when going up or down steep hills - the engine revs stay high for a few seconds even though you no longer need the power (going up) or engine breaking (going down). However it's a joy compared to the box on the Smart, which was a steaming pile of shit. MPG has averaged at about 40 so far which is ok, but you have to drive it quite gently to get that, the (lighter) Smart did about the same but I used to beat it like a ginger step kid on most journeys.

Not my fleet (yet!) but my Dad’s just bought this Bristol 410. It looks rather nice.

It turns out the MINI’s ac compressor is seized solid, the clutch very scored & blued. Bugger.

Back to the MINI, we have an example of the joys of running a common, worthless car - s/h parts are dirt cheap.

Replacement compressor from a MINI specialist breaker = £17.50. 8-)

Thrill of Evo - Bit of a mare with Superb. Belt squeal for past 6 months which I’d assumed was alternator belt; it only had 30k miles on approx. on clock. Decided to finally get sorted whilst it’s sat as an ornament for past 3 months.

Alternator belt changed but problem persisted. Trip 2 moved onto cambelt which was reassuringly cheap. It was due in Sept so could have been worse. All seemed well until giving it some beans when a knock from front right appeared. Trip 3, engine mount adjusted all is well.

For long trips and as a general family wagon it’s brilliant. 50mpg easy enough, loads of space with 2 kids and enough power (190ps-)

10l of pigs piss added today, only 8k till refill 🙄

Still got sights on Caterham - just need to justify 20k spend. Doesn’t seem to be sight of recession yet, people are spending like crazy.
