I don’t claim to follow Brazil’s politics but I listen to the excellent broadcaster Tim Vickery, who’s been living in Brazil for many years, on various shows on Talksport, that President is a grade A clown.

Their president is a dick. He makes Trump seem like a genius. The problem is that the Brazilians are terrible at following rules and guidance at the best of times. The in-laws claim to be in 'lockdown', but they're going round to each other's houses and not really social distancing. I think for them it just means a bit of extra hand washing. All the businesses are still open, including my cousin-in-law's clinic. Yet they must be doing something right as they've had a few days of good figures, at least compared to the US.

The postcode checker now shows you local info for last week (29/6 to 5/7) and shows how that compares to previous week. Useful to keep tabs on local spread

Maybe a drop in people dying in accidents etc due to the lockdown.

Yeah I think it is, as the non-Covid deaths has plummetted. I guess a lot might also be older/vulnerable people that otherwise might have been dying, but died a little earlier from CV19

That's still more than the total deaths in plenty of countries (if the stats can be believed)

Proves the lockdown did flatten the curve though.

It was a really nice guy who picked-up the Golf last week, but he then proceeded to tell me how the whole Covid thing has just been a government hoax in order to force us to a cashless society.

Its weird, how you read this stuff online, but actually meeting a person face to face who believes this sort of stuff is a big of a wake up call. Not entirely sure why, but it was a bit of a shock.
Cheers,

Mike.

We went to York designer outlet (shopping centre) on Friday afternoon. After a short queue to get in once inside the shopping experience was absolutely brilliant. I usually HATE shopping as its packed with people but this was fantastic - not too busy, lots of stock in my size and the prices were low as they try and shift stuff.

I can see if they open longer hours to reduce number density shopping centres might actually be more busy than before as folk like me might go.

I’ve not been to any actual shops, but impressed at how slick the clock and collect service now is at both Screwfix and toolstation.

Previously you’d get a text to say your stuff was ready, you’d turn up, wait ages behind queues of people while they went off and found their stuff, then you got to the front and your stuff wasn’t actually picked and ready, it was just reserved so they had to go and pick it.

Last few times I’ve been I’ve not seen another person and the stuff has been ready and bought to the till within seconds.

Hopefully they’ll keep dedicated click and collect lanes when things are back to normal.

Lots of people simply don’t know anyone who’s suffered from it and think it’s some sort of bizarre conspiracy by the government to destroy our economy because people are too greedy or some other nonsense.

The irony being our government acted too late, because (IMO) they put the economy ahead of public heath and made a few other very bad mistakes... like allowing thousands of people to fly in unchecked/no quarantine, with plenty of them bringing in the virus.
