Fish Supper
Re: Fish Supper
9 pages without a fish pun? I might have a fish supper tonight. You know, just for the halibut.
Re: Fish Supper
Fish puns have no porpoise here. Salmon guys - we’re batter than that!
It’s chippy puns we need here of sauce!
I don’t know whether to a salt someone or fry my eyes out.

I miss chip shop chips
From what I've found so far, even the posh "chipperys" (yes, that's a word here) chips come from a blue bag from the freezer. None of them buy sacks of spuds to do their own.
On the plus side the fish is always good.

Oh, and salt and vinegar aren't on the counter to help yourself. If you ask for salt they will use chicken salt - https://mashable.com/2017/01/05/chicken ... australia/

Ooh, available, at a price, through Amazon
Is it an all over Australia thing? I'll ask my cousins who moved to Perth.

A diversion :
This week we realised a place out in the country that does good food had started offering take-aways. Nice treat for us all. Limited (aka no) choice, but everyone loves ribs (in our house) so all good. Not cheap - £12 a head, but t’was huge and very good. Hand cut chips and a sweetcorn side.
Most of it was consumed with conventional cutlery. No chopsticks Coaster1 . But towards the end... it was getting finnicky. I wanted to pick one up and trim the remaining meat off, but Rich B ! I tried not to Rich. I really tried. But I had to. Just one rib at first. Under control. But then I had a second. No. And it was so good Richard. So good.
Once my tummy had settled a bit, I went for a piss in the garden and just went straight to bed with my ball.

Re: Fish Supper
Ribs are a rule unto themselves. Theres no civilised way to eat them, so go for it.
Re: Fish Supper
I can eat ribs with a fork and steak knife. Am I DIW?

Re: Fish Supper
With ribs it all depends. If the meat is falling off the bone then it's possible to eat most of it with a knife and fork, but you always end up having to pick a few up to finish off IME. However, even that is made easier if you've got a clean bone to hold on to (matron).

mik Even I wouldn’t try using chopsticks
Re: Fish Supper
Is there a more hit and miss food than ribs?
Re: Fish Supper
AS far as I know, yes.

I had to dig out this thread because, with strong memories of Chris posting about orange chips, I finally had some last night. I say I had some; they were from Worcester so not properly Black Country and they were sold as battered chips. And they really are exactly that; they actually tasted lovely which I didn't expect. Definitely will order them again.speedingfine wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 8:03 pmDafuuq?
1) Does everyone get curry sauce with their fish and chips without fail?
2) How many of you are aware of the midland delicacy 'orange chips'? (They're sadly awful btw)

Mother Hubbard’s in Worcester - I think they are a chain. First bite was a bit WTF, but they grew on me

I’m putting a vote in for the mushy pea fritter, but basically we’ve established that all foods are improved by frying in batter.
