Re: Question on Quattro
Always this. e.g. if looking at non-M 3-series diesels the 330d won't be much different on economy but an infinitely nicer experience. Possibly less prone to bursting into flames than the 2l derv unit as well.
And on the Arteon/Superb (apologies for keep banging that drum ) the 272/280 2.0 TSI will comfortably clock north of 40mpg on an m-way schlep at c80. Being the EA888 engine it also remaps fairly comfortably to 350+bhp
Re: Question on Quattro
Can't believe no one has suggested a Citroen C6 or a Vel Satis yet
Re: Next car purchase
Yesterday afternoon, I test drove a few 3 series. The local-ish dealer has four 19 plate 320d F31 Tourings (all auto and Shadow Edition i.e. black trim in and out). Rear seats and space are fine but the boot isn't exactly big. I'd say it's only slightly deeper than my 2 series coupe but a bit taller. The 2L lump wasn't as noisy as some people say they are and performance is fine.
The 2L diesel in the newer G20 is a step up and the new 330d is just lovely, I much prefer it. Also, rear leg room is impressive in the new G20 and it looks much better than the F30/F31.
Going back to space, I've realised the 3 series saloon or touring has more than enough space for a family of three. Also, the wife is on the case to get an Alphard LOLz.

If she’s getting an alphard, why do you need an estate?
Re: Next car purchase
Get an Alphard and an M3. All problems solved.

Re: Next car purchase
Has she thought about the indicator stalk being on the wrong side, the Japanese text so she doesn't know what the sat nav and stereo does, etc? Fun for someone who wants a bit of JDM-yo, maybe not for someone who just thinks they look funky.
Re: Next car purchase
We all know it’s because she’s going to have 5 kids. Might as well scrap the 3 series plan and also go for a 7 seat X5
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Next car purchase
She uses her parent's Alphard all the text. But aye, the stalks on the wrong side is a bloody pain.

Re: Next car purchase
And the plastic. Acres of plastic. Nobody does plastic quite like the Japanese.
Re: Next car purchase
That was a pain on the VXR8 too. There should be a global standard for shizzle like that.Alex_ wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 10:22 amShe uses her parent's Alphard all the text. But aye, the stalks on the wrong side is a bloody pain.
Re: Next car purchase
stop dicking about with chopping in a car you do want for a car you don’t want, and find her an Alftard then!
Some people just don’t help themselves!

Re: Next car purchase
Surely the car h wants is an Alphard and an M3?

Re: Next car purchase
Suggesting the M3 was the equivalent of Rev saying he’ll install an LS motor in every car he gets.

That's stunning!Alex_ wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 9:08 am Evonomics have kicked in: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... esc&page=1
I've obviously lost track of M3s, because I saw this one listed on Collecting Cars and think it just looks like a boggo standard 3 series with bits on. Where are the curves and flared bits?

I never really liked the e92 because the rear end looks all wrong, that rear 3/4 photo really shows it off.
The e90 saloon version always appealed more because the rear end looked a lot more squat.
