Socialising over video
We’ve done a few things at work with virtual coffee breaks, pub quizzes, Friday drinks etc. but we’re getting a bit jaded. Anyone done something fun that’s suitable for work?

Fortnite
To be fair one of the team has made a private fun map that is a good laugh and far friendlier than dumping into a random squad or deathmatch.

Sadly it all gets old pretty quick. I think it's the whole thing of not being able to have a side chat and basically having it so that only one person can really talk at a time to everyone.
VR meeting rooms will be the future which can manage noise depending on how close you are to someone and how loud you're talking. Tech must more or less be there I guess.

Someone recommended the Pokerface app to me, but I haven't tried it yet.

If anyone has the Jackbox party games, they’re pretty good fun.

We’ve been doing movie nights where someone picks a movie that everyone has access to and we watch while talking shite on discord or video chat.

I found an online version of Pictionary so we’ll give that a go.

Theres online Cards Against Humanity which is free, that's quite fun.
We've all been doing our local pub quiz every Tuesday, quizman posts the questions on Facebook, our team have a conference call so it's a bit like being in the pub, we can have a few beers and a good argument over the questions

We did a family thing - made a Spotify playlist of Tv themes from through the ages and used Zoom screen sharing with “share computer sound” so the quality wasn’t shit.
Great fun watching everyone immediately recognise things, but struggle enormously to identify what they are.
One of my wife’s aunts didn’t even get Dallas - despite watching it every week apparently.

If you’re looking to do quizzes, Kahoot! Is a good platform. We use it a lot and everyone loves it. Every live online course or presentation seems to end with a Kahoot quiz.

There was a brilliant trainer at Volkswagen back in the day that used to incorporate quizzes and games into his classroom sessions. Stuff like Crazy golf around the room - get a question right and get another shot etc. Another one was the old skool Killer darts game but you saved your 'life' if you got your question right etc.
Always broke up the day very well and sort of made stuff stick. The last game of the day used to be a sort of "Looser Loses all" game between him and the "leader" in terms of the games / points where the looser has to buy the first round in bar later on.
It certainly made long days in Hotel meeting rooms and dry content a hell of a lot more bearable.

This actually worked really well, once we discovered that you can make almost anything look rude whilst your drawing it.NotoriousREV wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 9:31 am I found an online version of Pictionary so we’ll give that a go.

Doing a Pub Quiz is fun, especially if you make it specific. My main group of friend have been close since school/college so we have a lot of friendship lore/history to draw from. Here's some of the rounds I made (edits to avoid doxing)

We've just had our annual department off-site event as an online conference spread out over the week. Our comms person has done an outstanding job and it has been fun and engaging. It can be made to work but is hard work for the people driving/managing.

I'm definitely stealing that whose nose idea for the next quiz I organise
I also like to do a geoguessr round in quizzes, it's an online Google Street view based game where you have to guess where in the world map you are. You can choose the time limit per location anywhere from 10 seconds to unlimited (I find 2-3 minutes works well if you're all doing it at the same time) and you can either make your own game choosing the locations yourself or use a map created by another user.

Love the nose round
Our scout group has been doing all sorts for our online zoom meetings, as have most of the groups in the country. I’ve seen quite a few different escape room setups, some full custom
programmes and some PowerPoint based ones. I’m hopeless with computers so I made our spare bedroom into an escape room and had the scouts direct me to do certain tasks, turn left, open that drawer etc. Worked well but takes a bit of imagination and effort to set up
