Aston Martin, Ferrari, & McLaren Update
Re: Aston Martin, Ferrari, & McLaren Update
Interesting read as always.
Your comment on McLaren's "Track25 plan which called for 18 new models by 2025". What's the equivalent plan from Ferrari?
The AML situation just makes me very angry.
Have you looked at the numbers for the supercar small fry? Pagani et al.

Sorry, but I got as far as -
I mean, I'm guessing its not the first time since the movie came out where a drunk exec has suggested maybe they should make an underwater car, but I'm flabbergasted they actually went and considered something like that!? Its straight out of a parody movie.

Re: Aston Martin, Ferrari, & McLaren Update
I enjoyed that.
I don’t like the current styling Aston has settled on plus the cars look awful in the metal in a kit car way. They look cheap, they look like someone who’s an engineer first and foremost has had their first bash at styling a car for clubman racing and plans to release an on road version.
Then I hear the prices, I don’t know why I would buy one over an older model for example a DBS, DB9 etc. Nor a McLaren or Ferrari. The DBX looks better in the metal than it does in the pictures plus it’s a very different looking SUV to the norm and often that’s good enough to sell cars for a short while. It’s therefore a little shocking to hear about the other side projects they’ve got going on when their core business appears to be so far off the rails.
Maybe I’m just not their target market and there’s loads of people out there who think Aston still make some of the best looking cars on sale, I really do think there needs to be a massive change in their business to survive and I’m hoping Stroll has a cunning plan up his sleeve.

Re: Aston Martin, Ferrari, & McLaren Update
Good, thought provoking read as always.
There's an interesting rumour that Mercedes is pulling out of F1 as a constructor, but will remain as engine supplier.
Mr. Stroll will exchange his AM stock for F1 Mercedes team stock. Thus leaving Mercedes as owner of MB and Mr. Stroll & Wolf as owners of the "old" Mercedes F1 team.
Any change of this actually happening?
Perhaps this is the reason why Mr. Stroll did not change to much in the last couple months and that ex AMG executive is now CEO of AM to prepare for the takeover?

An interesting view on it and certainly a possibility. We touched on it a bit more in the F1 thread. I guess we will know more over the next 12 months.zx6rkiller wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2020 10:17 am Good, thought provoking read as always.

Getting numbers for Pagani & Koenigsegg etc is near impossible as they are private companies and don't publish financials.RobYob wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2020 7:50 am Interesting read as always.

Re: Aston Martin, Ferrari, & McLaren Update
Aston isn't known for the reliability of its electronics .....so the idea of a Aston sub is just terrifying.Ascender wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2020 9:04 am Sorry, but I got as far as -https://www2.astonmartin.com/en/project-neptune...vanity projects like Project Nepture – the Aston Martin Submarine...

Re: Aston Martin, Ferrari, & McLaren Update
Possible but not sure how likely. Stroll already owns one F1 team, not sure why he would want another.zx6rkiller wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2020 10:17 am Good, thought provoking read as always.

Stroll made his fortune in fashion. For him the big payoff is to turn Aston into the next Ferrari by moving it from being a car manufacturer into a global luxury brand. Current Aston sells 5000 cars a year and is worth $800 mil. Ferrari sells 10,000 cars a year and is worth $40 bil. Its a big opportunity if he can pull it off.

Re: Aston Martin, Ferrari, & McLaren Update
I guess it depends on how much he wants to be successful in F1. If he’s happy running a midfield team with a relatively limited budget trying to upset as much of the establishment as possible as a hobby then that’s great. I really do enjoy seeing RP do that.SSO wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2020 3:57 pmPossible but not sure how likely. If he really wants to start making head way then it’s argued the best set ups are running two teams and that’s something Mercedes don’t currently have but Red Bull and Ferrari do. Given the new regs will ‘penalise’ successful teams development on a sliding scale then it would make sense for the two team outfits to run a sort of ‘tick-tock’ strategy where they lead with one team for one year, then transfer all their knowledge to their second team for the second year, then in the third year it transfers back to the first team and so on. The advantage there being the second team would finish lower in the championship and have a larger development budget available to them but due to them ultimately being one organisation the advantage of having access to the championship winning teams engineering data from the previous year. We’ve already seen teams take advantage of this today when RB swapped drivers with TR last year mid season.
If Stroll and Wolff end up with the Merc outfit and RP together then they are in a position where they can split the staff to meet the regulations as they see fit. It’s a very strong position to be in but I think it would be unlikely to come off.

Only thing that's a surprise it is took them so long to plan. It was clear Aston needed to restructure back in Q4 2019.jamcg wrote: Thu Jun 04, 2020 10:43 am Latest news on Aston Martin, up to 500 redundancies and reduced sport car output

The share price of Aston has doubled since you started this thread! - it’s a shame I’ve only been ‘playing’ with £250 on it.
Time to take my original investment out?

It all depends on how Stroll wants to play it.
