Feels peppier than I thought it would, but I've not been driving it hard until I know where the noise is from, slight clicky/tapping noise from the NSF on or off power in all gears, doesn't change note, same in all gears.
CV Joint or diff I reckon, more likely diff related though, doesn't change with direction, does if clutch dipped.
No noise at idle.
No suspension knocks or bangs and seems to handle well, has standard 'Super Sport' suspension as an option, Chili Pack with half leather sport seats, panoramic roof has been sealed up due to leaks so does actually work so I'll look into that a bit more.
The car has been serviced locally by its previous owner at a Mini specialist, and at Mini before that for every service!
Massive pole of receipts, previous owner paid £3k a year and a bit ago for it!
Just had new front and rear discs and pads, new radiator, new thermostat, new battery and a pair of new ditchfinders.
Will look into selling the number plate as it's not its original, if I get 250 for it then it will pay for the gearbox reconditioning!

Oh and the roof works apparently, I pushed the button and it tries to move.
The reason it doesn't is due to the sealant someone's put all around it!
Should be a time consuming but easy fix!

Well don’t I look like a plank I only live a few miles away from Penrith so that was on my doorstep. Speaking to a few different people, I was only aware of auto-solos and 12-car rallying.Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 4:50 pmI bet there is ! You’ll have more interesting venues than down here too. Which bit of Cumbria ?

This sounds like a date for 2021 I went to Uni in Lancaster so I don’t mind a nostalgic trip up to the NW.
Don’t ignore the solos, they’re good fun and a good way of meeting some of the folk from your club. There will be a huge wealth of experience to draw on, and people *love* talking about their cars !

Mini update - had a bit of a sticky clutch pedal on Thurs then yesterday it went to the floor and didnt return while pootling along in traffic. Having no clutch is not something I've experienced but knew knocking it into neutral and pulling in was probably best. Underneath was deposit of the hydraulic fluid so will be related . Recovered to garage - bill or damage unkown,

Re: Your fleet running reports
Slave cylinder. Had it twice in my T4. It was an engine-out job in that one; hopefully the MINI is easier.
FWIW, you can nurse a car along with no clutch if you suspend your mechanical sympathy for a bit. I did it twice in my T4...

Re: Your fleet running reports
Similar issue when I had the clutch cable snap on my R19 16v at some traffic lights. Annoying, but it wasn’t that hard to replace, though the engine was quite big for The engine bay, so access was a bit shit. The original cable went right next the the exhaust manifold so just dried up over time and broke. I added a bit more heat shield to try and stop it repeating.
Re: Your fleet running reports
Even without the complications of engine out it’s still gearbox off to replace a csc, stupid idea but done obviously to rinse the customer and generate work for mechanics when they inevitably fail.Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Sat May 16, 2020 10:49 am Slave cylinder. Re: Your fleet running reports
Yes he did mention box off and not easy when he didn't even open the bonnet to solve the problem .
I walked to the nearest garage as my usual one didn't answer. Unfortunately I'd driven 300 yrds past it and was in no position to turn it round and drive up the steep hill where their yard is. As I was parked in a bus lane at 430pm 35 quid to recover it was similar to a fine
Hopefully not too broken.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Subframe out to remove the box on those, only a 4 hour ish job on a ramp so not too bad.
I'm not looking forward to getting my gearbox out on my back, with the help of a couple of axle stands and a jack, I'm used to having use of a ramp

Re: Your fleet running reports
So I've just been through all the receipts for the Mini.
It had a new clutch 8 months ago, then 4 months ago had a NS Driveshaft after it was recovered to a local garage for a loss of drive
Also its had all the sunroof drains cleaned 2 months ago and all 4 suspension springs were replaced due to corrosion at the same time.
Then it had a new battery as the old one had a bad cell (complete with battery test print out)
Then 2 month ago it had an inspection 2 service, front and rear discs and pads and investigated customer concern of tapping from gearbox area since NS NS driveshaft replaced.
Hmm.
Wonder if it's the wrong shaft they've put in?
Got so many receipt with it, think it might be a bit too nice to rally it

you’d rather sling something that hadn’t been looked after round a track at 10/10ths?16vCento wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2020 2:39 pm So I've just been through all the receipts for the Mini.

Re: Your fleet running reports
I'd rather sling something less perfect body wise down a gravel track tbh!
If I go rallying it would need a good 2 inch lift to be any good as it's very low, glass roof would be an issue as well.
Looks like I need to find a 4th car to go rallying in
Maybe a Fabia or a Punto Sporting?
Came up well after a quick snow foam and wipe over, it has LOADS of tar all over it, never seen anything like it!
My tar remover won't touch it and its normally great! Any suggestions?

Discussed a little while ago - Sticky Stuff Remover is excellent and only about £3 a bottle. Smells like it is mostly parafin though - and you will also find parafin itself removes them very quickly.
