Your fleet running reports
Re: Your fleet running reports
16 Plate C220d AMG Line has been in for new front disks and pads (72k) at the local spanner monkey. I'd ordered genuine parts from Mercedes on Ebay for £217 and labour from him was £64. A tip top job and ready for France next week.
On the way back from collecting the car my wife clipped mirrors with someone on the narrow country lane we were on in her S60. Mirror glass smashed! Just been on Ebay to order a replacement heated mirror glass with mounting plate for a whopping £9.49.

I wish, it's a gearbox out job to fix! Replacing with a Racetech clock seems to be the way to go, £210 with the sensor though (cheaper options just seem to be eBay tat)ste wrote: ↑Tue May 29, 2018 4:17 pmAh the old 'my cable fell out the back of the speedo' trick to keep the mileage down, I get ya.speedingfine wrote: ↑Tue May 29, 2018 2:13 pm Approx figure as the speedo cable that should've fixed the odo... didn't.
EDIT - Burton Power seem to be much cheaper, £160.
Re: Your fleet running reports
It didn't quite do that, but it didn't start so I took the Yeti instead. Coming back to it from the passenger side I see that at some point someone has kindly opened their door into it. A small dent but it looks like quite a scrape of the paint (lots of mud & dirt around it so I couldn't get a clear view. I don't feel like washing it to see either atm).
Re: Your fleet running reports
Ah what a ballache. I’d like to fit the Stack unit to mine but it’d be money I never got back if I sell the car. Plus I guess the specially spec’d fluoro yellow dials are actually pretty cool.speedingfine wrote: ↑Tue May 29, 2018 6:09 pm

Always liked the look of Racetech dials, finally got one
Got the sensor required s/h on eBay for £35 instead of £50.
Anybody gone from mechanical Speedo to stepper motor? How easy a job am I facing?
Re: Your fleet running reports
Seeing that reminded me of the dash a friend is building for his mk1 Escort. I think his credit card got a bit of a battering that month.

Holy cr4p that would annoy the fvcking life out of me.
Re: Your fleet running reports
I bet that was soooo much fun
On our trip to Donington (av 20 mpg) on Weds my mate commented on how much more planted the estate is than the hatch R (he has a 2015 dsg 370 bhp). I agree altho we both said a manual gearbox was better for driving thrills. Day to day the dsg is just like an auto - kickdown is awful but then thats not the point. I guess the idea is to plan to go quickly which is fine when you have time but when there is no time I find the dsg a massive pain in the arse. I dont think I like it at all.

It's just from having a mix of local and longer journeys. Need to work out a way to boil those numbers into proper cost per mile / mpg equivalent (as electricity isn't free).
I find I'm actually driving the shorter trips with no regard for economy at all. If it's short enough that it'll be on electric only, no real penalty for nailing it at every set of traffic lights or out of every junction plus you can do that from cold with no worrying about oil being up to temperature. Can drive like a bellend without the noise and revs to tell people that you're driving like one. Plug in when you get home, another very cheap 25 miles of electric ready and waiting for the next trip.

Re: Your fleet running reports
I tried Jobbo's revolutionary idea of re-setting the trip when I filled up fuel recently... I filled up again last night: 225ish miles on a full tank of super.
Very roughly that's 16mpg. Remind me not to do that again

Re: Your fleet running reports
yeah, I get around that from a tank of super on mine +\- 25 miles depending on what sort of driving. I have a few projects that are c.100 miles away and it’s always fun having to fill the tank twice in a day!
Re: Your fleet running reports
But was it a full tank of Super?
The amount you had to put in to refil it was the amount you had consumed driving those 225miles. That is the number you want for the calculation.
Re: Your fleet running reports
To be fair that did involve another thrash around Oxfordshire last weekend, a quick 60mile m-way drive back and then London traffic.
If I really baby it, on a long motorway run I could get near 400miles out of it. I guess that's where it differs from the M3 as I suppose you'd probably struggle to get far north of 300 out of a tank even hypermiling wouldn't you?

Re: Your fleet running reports
Yep pretty much - brimmed till it clicked off twice, then reset the trip. 225miles on it when running on fumes with the needle right at the bottom. It was reading 10 miles on the "miles to refuel" when I reached the garage so to be fair it probably had 15 miles before cutting out which makes 240miles and 17.1ish mpg
I'll do it accurately next time for you Mik
Re: Your fleet running reports
it doesn’t matter whether you run it to fumes or not - it’s the amount it takes to refill it to the brim again that enables you to accurately work out the mpg.GG. wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 12:43 pmYep pretty much - brimmed till it clicked off twice, then reset the trip. 225miles on it when running on fumes with the needle right at the bottom. I’ve never seen even 300 miles from a tank in the M3.

Receipt says £85.15 less the price of packet of Wrigley's airwaves gum (45p).
I now just need to price per litre of superunleaded from that filling station. I googled to find those price comparison websites for fuel but couldn't find Shell Crystal Palace. Foiled!
