According to Ford the Galaxy needs a new cylinder head

Interesting conversation to be had when I head down there shortly. Must be directly related to the overheating problem it is being recalled for, so I expect them to pay.

Nothing to worry about. Ford is paying for the head. Does mean we'll be another couple of days delayed.

As it is £1700ish for the part alone, I'm quite happy not to have to argue about it.

Which engine is that? Don’t know much about Fords but the groundwork chap we use had the same problem with his Transit after 9000 miles - says it’s crap compared to the older one they also run.

DJ's is the 1.6 ecoboost I think. They're known for having a cooling design issue that was fixed in a recall.

My neighbour has started working at ford as a mam aged in the service department and has told me he's glad he doesn't get a company car and there's no way he'd ever buy a new Ford

Funnily enough, I’ve got a mate that works at Airbus as a supervisor in the wing factory and he says he’d rather fly on a Boeing 😂

That's the one. Ford isn't doing terribly well what with the issue on the 1L engine and the clutch/auto gearbox class action on top. In the Galaxy's defence it has never let us down, but equally does nothing much to engender brand loyalty.

Still doing some sums to keep the golf another year v buy a shitheap

£240.00 - service
£230.00 - couple of tyres
£222.00 x 12 rent

= £3134.00

Which is probably the same as the depreciation anyway.

When I did the maths, basically anything decent used costs the same overall as renting the Golf. It all depends on what you want. With the 911, I'm effectively just saving the monthly payments in order to pay for servicing and repairs (and am already about 14 months down )

I want an easy life to be honest.

Quite like the car while not terribly exciting most of the time it is really quick when you are in the mood.

To buy it is around 25k v borrowing is going to be more money if you had a return on the cash rather than using a loan.

I'm paying 288 a month now (not factoring in the 1800 first payment) so including cost its 261 monthly for the next year - which to be fair is less than 10 pounds a day. :D

Shirley a no brainer to keep the Golf. Bit of a lottery buying a cheaper used car and it won’t give you the same performance, refinement or be as nice.

I'll be honest I've not looked - I wouldn't want to swap to exactly the same model tho, a mk8 maybe. 8-)

One of the many things I like about the golf is its ability to go quickly in winter / wet weather. My understanding is the bmw isnt so good in those conditions. Also the cost of fixing them isn't in the same price point as the vw.

I thought about getting an M5 but the front brakes alone are a grand - you just know buying a used car its you that gets these bills - sods law

Given the cleaning and aesthetic improvements you've made I'd expect you'd claw most of that back if you sold it now :)

997 passed its MOT with no advisories last Saturday which was good news. Its 9 years old now so can't assume it will sail through quite so much anymore.

The new Carrera II wheels I bought for it have also been delivered. They're shod with winters but I'm itching to get them on so may swap them over even though its currently 16 deg
