Bugger. I was pondering whether to buy a fifth Toyo Open Country tyre and probably ought to; maybe 6...

What did you puncture it on?

Is the stain on the rim (fnar) from the tyre after you hit whatever it is you hit? That's quite impressive!

I would highly recommend carrying a full-size spare ! Matching, ideally. This happened on a very very gentle leafy path not far from tarmac so I had no problem getting out. If it happened somewhere more remote you could end up stranded if you were relying on a spacesaver.

All I did was clip it on a small log. There was a tree that had clearly come down some time ago and a section cut out to allow access again. I steered clear of the big bit on the left but hit a small bit on the right. Look I dun a utube:

Slightly sickening thud @ 12s :?

Also, it looks like I was going quite fast. I really wasn't.

Fortunately I have a full size spare mounted on the rear door (Bridgestone Dueller) but I think having an exact match for the tyres on your car is probably the right way to go. Bad luck though!

That is quite fast though. Something like that I’m normally in 2nd just above idle, so a fast walk. I’ve dented a rim from hitting a rock when I was concentrating on one side too much but it’s never damaged the tyre luckily.

Did you run standard pressures?

Can you get steel wheels for yours ? I’d imagine it has some pretty big brakes on it ?

Crump-hissss is never a nice feeling. Same thing when I had a wheel taken it by a pothole - ripped the tyre open and buckled the wheel, was barely doing 10mph.

I'd not have minded as much if I'd have whacked it doing 40 or so because at least then I could say I bloody deserved it....

It didn't feel fast, but given the outcome, I think I might have to concede it was too fast :( Some adjustment needed from my end. My other recent off-roading has been in The Compact; a rather different driving style !

I was on standard pressures, 40psi. I'm not sure if you can get steel wheels for these. I know I need 18" minimum to clear the brakes. I'm happy running the alloys though, it wasn't a fault of the wheel, I hit the log at just the right point to gouge the tyre. A bit further right and I would have rolled over it, a bit further left and I would have missed it. I'll chalk it up to bad luck.

I tend to think 4mph is about right for green laning. I do go faster from time to time but a low-range transfer box certainly makes it more obvious when doing so.
