It's an infuriating thing with speccing new cars (based on playing with configurators, I've never bought a new car  ). I get the idea of having the packs for ease of choice but you should be able to pick any option you want if you're happy to pay for it.

Is it down to WLTP? Manufacturers having to simplify option arrangements in order to keeping testing simple?

You pretty much can - go for the base model, avoid the packs and you can have things like Cabin Walk-Through with 14-way electric memory leather seats.

Can't get the big engine though. The one I made starts with the base car and it's pretty much what I'd have but I'd prefer it with the 6.

The 6 is only available with the X model for the moment, but JLR are famous for offering expensive first editions for those silly enough to order them early.

My 'frugal' spec: https://build.landrover/0800F89B - the leather seats add over £5k so that's the main extravagance. Kept the cabin walk-through 8-)

We can fit a Rover V8 to it, if you want?

The white roof is available to spec - only on the green or blue, but it is there. I wondered why so many press shots showed configurations which weren't available. I want the white roof on a black one though.

Blue with a white roof. I think this is how I'd buy it. https://build.landrover/E0C2D38E

I'd be happy with that, but with a black interior and the wheel arch protectors.

Do they not offer that ubiquitous light bluey greeny colour? It would look good in that and provide yet another hark back to the original. Maybe I should work for these idiots :D

That actually has the wheelarch protectors, but you can't see them because they only show up in the pics if you select one of the packs which come with them.

If you're going for ventilated leather seats in a Defender, you may as well have them in cream

How does it fit size wise alongside a Disco Sport? And in terms of off-road tech/capability?
And towing capacity?
Left over crest; tightens.
