you know all your RC cars, computers, drones, tools, bikes, cars, etc, etc that you have in your dads barn? Now imagine trying to fit them all in a place that YOU could afford to buy.

Colleagues A4 convertible decided it didn't want to close the roof in the pub car park. With the hood cover all the way open...

Bit of Google work and I've decided that the manual process for opening/locking the roof is pretty good.

So roof closed, locked front and rear, happy chum off to happy husband, and they will likely be less happy when they see how much a hydraulic pump costs. Ah well, saved then an AA callout or a low loader (car would have been undrivable as it was)

Unexpected end to the day!

Prob needs a micro switch or the roof ECU reset

I fixed an E46 roof by tapping all the mircoswitches

If I solely lived in London with no family to look after my other stuff then I wouldn’t have any of those excess belongings. What would I do with 3 cars, big toolbox for working on agricultural stuff and forestry equipment in London and RC vehicles which are banned

6 years ago when my parents had a double garage we managed to fit all our stuff in as well as 2 cars although I remember us being the only house in the street which used our garage for parking cars. We didn’t have a shed in the garden either! Never had much clutter.

oh mate, first things I looked for, but couldn't find any to hand (E46 ones are pretty visible, A4 cabrio, less so it seems).

A decent diag session from a trusted audi specialist should help clear it up. No reports of a bang or a 'poof' noise so it might well just be the logic hardware; hydraulic pump is less likely but far from impossible.

Washed my car as it was parked up for over a month since the MOT expired and had about a billion rose petals stuck to it from the storm 2 weeks ago. That’s the downside to the carport I guess, car stays dry which is better for it but definitely appears to get more dirty.

No I didn’t drive it to the beach to check if it’s all ok before it has its MOT and service next week, that would be too risky with all the Police we have ;)

Afterwards I hung up the flags that we received for the DTM race - thought it would be a waste to bin them!Image

Six. 6. SIX!
Yeah got it a while ago as it needed the same amount of money in maintenance as what it worth spending on it so I just took it on (front suspension, breaks, 2 new headlights, indicators and all the bulbs and ballast, wing mirror glass, wheel refurb, rocker gaskets, coolant tank, gearbox service).

The MOT ran out on the Touareg way back in Feb. I knew it needed a CV boot on the front but I’ve been putting it off as I rarely *need* the car. Next weekend I do need it so I finally set to this morning, only to find the shock boot has ripped in the meantime.

Looks like a bit of a mission to get it all apart. And it makes me want to do both sides. Good job I have nothing better to do this week.

Bought my touareg with non working aircon, obviously only needed a re gas. Umm no. Took it to ATS who tried to charge it, lot of gas pouring out from behind the passenger side head light pin pointed the leak. ATS don’t charge if they can get it working so that was a cheap diagnosis. Except the pipe is nothing but cheap, £70 for a second part from eBay, £170+vat from TPS, £150 including vat from my friend in VW. The new part superseded the old part and had a flexible pipe where the old pipe sheared from vibration I presume. New pipe on, back to ATS and a recharge later and still no working air con. Can be one of four things now I think, solenoid, clutch on the compressor, compressor or simply re charge the gas and clear the low pressure code which would be a bit too simple but hopefully the cheapest way.

Incidentally because ats couldn’t get it working the drain the gas out and no charge.

New ARB bushes to fit. Mine are squeaking like a bastard, and while they can be greased up to silence them, they're well known to need to regularly doing to maintain the quiet, whereas the Powerflex are fit-and-forget (or so I'm told).

Plus, they're purple, so...yeah.

Interested to know how you get on Matt, although mine have been silent for 2yrs since CraigMoncrieff greased them up (and I think front arb bush re-grease is part of his std service now for evora.

I think that's been a useful day tinkering with the Touareg.

First off, although the shock boot can be purchased on its own, the labour involved is the same as changing the complete air spring so I talked myself into ordering a pair of new springs (including new boots).

Then having doused everything in PlusGas I found (hopefully) the reason for the air leak - bubbles appearing from the check valve on the n/s shock. New valves are included with the new springs so this is all useful.

Next I spent a while trying to figure out how the hell you get the struts off the car. You need to remove the wiper arms & scuttle trim. Obviously ! I also found that - as with every s/h car - someone else has been f*cking about Doing It Wrong while "fixing" stuff in the past. A vacuum hose was broken due to having been routed the wrong side of an intake hose. It's the hose to operate the EGR valve on the driver's side bank of the engine. Not having an operating EGR valve on half the engine *probably* doesn't matter too much but with the hose open it probably means other things haven't been getting enough suck. It's a bloody complicated engine so that could be anything (or nothing). If it runs better now that will be a nice bonus.

The driveshafts came out easily but the replacements I bought back in Feb are the wrong ones. D'oh. I can't even swap the boots over as they're different sizes. Two more driveshafts have been ordered...

So for now the car is up on stands with the front suspension all dismantled while I wait for the new bits to arrive.

The other thing that came to light is a bit of an oil leak on the n/s bank. I can't see where it's coming from as the engine is huge and pretty much fills the engine bay. This could turn out to be A Problem as the MOT rules changed not long ago and made oil leaks a fail item if they're deemed bad enough. A tricky leak - from the turbo for example - could be an engine-out job to fix properly and I'm not entirely sure that makes economic sense. I'll see if I can track it down.

I went for the “suspiciously cheap” ebay jobbies @ £160 for the pair. It might come back to bite me. We’ll see.

Now that I'm single, I took the 3 kids and the ratdog away for the week in the Mini. It is not a load lugger. The boot was crammed to the roof and bags by feet. I need to put a budget together for a replacement at some point.

The place we were staying at had a steep drive with a tight turn out to the lane outside. I ended up spinning up the inside wheel getting moving and managed to blow a coil pack. Fortunately there was an ECP 10 miles away so I ordered a replacement and a T30 driver and wasted a couple of hours collecting and replacing.

After a few engine starts, the check engine light extinguished and then the brake warning light came on.
