Who still frequents a pub?
On is the decline of the pub, and up is the trend for drinking at home for numerous reasons. I reckon I’m in my local 3 times over a four week period, averaged over the year. Both weekend and mid-week, often eat there too. I’ll also go to another different pub about once a month too.
We’re getting a load of new houses built on the edge of the village, sort of a 50% increase in village capacity (so a few hundred houses), my local landlord reckons he’ll be lucky to see a handful of extra new faces out of it It got us thinking though about how many people actually go to the pub because it’s nowhere near what it used to be when you take it as a percentage of a population I.e. 6 in 100 residents use the local pub etc.

I walked past our local last night (as in, 200 yards away 'local') and it was pretty packed for a Thursday night, particularly the garden. Then again, maybe that's just the warm weather bringing people out? We're out to dinner on Monday night coming, but that'll be the first time in months that we've actually been to a pub.

Can’t remember the last time that didn’t also involve having a meal there.

When I was in my 20s, if we went down to Frodsham in summer, the (very wide) pavement outside would be packed and it would be 5 deep at the bar Thursday- Sunday. All the other pubs around there would be packed, too. Now there’s hardly anyone about.

I do like a cheeky couple in a local. Not a full night.
Re: Who still frequents a pub?
All the local pubs near me have closed, and the ones left are restaurants really. The breweries have fucked them over because the buildings are worth massively more as residential.
I go to pubs near my work in Guildford once or twice a week though for lunch and a pint and full on drinking sessions once every month or so.

Yep. Our village has three busy pubs on one road, two curry houses, a Chinese, one Italian, one kebab shop, a comrades club and a fish and chip shop on another. We eat out a lot! Wife is at the pub tonight with friends. I’m working.
Parent’s village has five pubs, three are busy every day whilst the other two are a lot quieter but seem to survive.
Maybe southerners drink out more on average?

WTF else do people do with their money? It's not like many of you fellas buy nice cars!
Re: Who still frequents a pub?
yep, the hatchet or the DoE are short walks, but theyre more restaurants. The stag is only 20 mins walk, but the little pubs in N Ascot have all gone now.IanF wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 9:59 pmYou in North Ascot now? My socialising is Guildford, Windsor and London anyway (which is probably part of the reason too, people commuting more) - so I’m not too bothered.

I remember when Rich was cool.
Re: Who still frequents a pub?
I've spent some time considering this equation, and have decided that it can be rubber-stamped as both officially correct and also 'winning'.
Re: Who still frequents a pub?
I enjoy a good pub, do like to explore so don’t really stick to one and there’s 1000’s in London. My local is crap, owned by Young’s - the food is crap, the staff are crap and it just feels like a chain restaurant.
Also £5.50 for some shit beer.

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Who still frequents a pub?
Totally, London is probably the reason I’m not ‘that’ bothered about local pubs - I must have been to literally hundreds of pubs/bars/clubs/breweries/etc in London and not even scratched the surface. There’s always somewhere new and interesting to try.

A pint just before last orders after the weekly MTB night ride. Unless it’s raining or really really cold.
My “local” I’ve been to 3 times in 4 years, always when I had mates over and went mostly for food.
