Australian hire car lottery.
Australian hire car lottery.
Booked 2 cars for a week. Cheapest we could find that would fit our luggage was a small SUV “Mitsubishi ASX” or similar.
Ive ended up with a Nissan X-Trail 2.5 petrol with a horrendous CVT automatic. They only had one SUV so my BIL got “Upgraded” to a saloon class car. He’s got a Vauxhall (Holden) Astra saloon 1.4 turbo - Also auto but not cvt. Both shit but I think mines is least shit.

I found the Astra to be a decent car. It reviews well too. Not tried the auto but the manual was fine.

Re: Australian hire car lottery.
CVT makes baby Jesus cry. I would definitely be pissed having to listen to that on holiday
Hope that's the kind of reply you wanted, apologies if not

Re: Australian hire car lottery.
Not car related but Australia is definitely on the visit list. Not sure I could last through the plane journey, mind.
Re: Australian hire car lottery.
36 hours....
Not looking forwards to returning.
Spent the weekend in Brisbane. We’re now in a huge villa on the Gold Coast. Went to surfers paradise today. It’s “winter” so the place is empty. It’s 29 degrees...
V8 supercars on Sunday.

I'm not jealous, but thats enough about that. Nobody is interested mate. Nope.scotta wrote: V8 supercars on Sunday.
Re: Australian hire car lottery.
Is that 36hours because of the time difference or because of long layovers?
It's worth taking a day or three in Singapore or HK or Dubai just to get out of an Aeroplane for a bit.
But it's a PITA (literally) to do in one hit.
Re: Australian hire car lottery.
One hit. 6 hours in Singapore. 1.5 hour in Germany
Re: Australian hire car lottery.
Fair enough, facilities in S'pore are supposed to be nice. We did the Dubai-Melbourne leg in one hit, even in a fairly quiet and comfortable A380 it's just a frigging long time in a confined space.scotta wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 10:42 amOne hit. 6 hours in Singapore. 1.5 hour in Germany
Re: Australian hire car lottery.
I’d like to try the direct flight for shits and giggles.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Australian hire car lottery.
Australia is too far away for too little reward. There - I've said it. Nice place to live but not worth the travel time to visit. So anyone who does is doing it wrong and should be ashamed.
Re: Australian hire car lottery.
I’ve never been but know many Australian’s here who seem to prefer to the UK just because we’re so close to everywhere else. Nurses certainly seemed to prefer working and living here.
Basically if you’re going to fly across the world go to Japan

Aye, I've been a few times as I have family over there but I'd rather just go to a nice bit of Europe.
An absolute unit
Re: Australian hire car lottery.
I hate it when we agree - I have almost no frame of reference for it
Re: Australian hire car lottery.
I will say car culture over there is pretty good. Cool american stuff, cool japanese stuff, their own weird versions of stuff and the climate means you get folk just driving around in stuff that would be hermetically sealed here.
One of my uncles mates uses a Renault 5 Turbo 2 pretty much daily.

Re: Australian hire car lottery.
Again - a nice place to live and settle in, but not worth it to visit. It's the UK with better weather and lethal wildlife and the Aussies are Brits with an accent.
Re: Australian hire car lottery.
It's also not so goddamn hot in summer. Compactness is nice too. Travel 30min in the UK and it's likely your in somewhere new and interesting with people talking in funny accents. Or I might be suffering the "normal for Norfolk" effect
Japan is also fecking hot and crowded and polluted and crowded.
Go to Aus, enjoy cheap and delicious SE Asian food, nice national parks, the barrier reef and the red centre.
Re: Australian hire car lottery.
Or LITERALLY any major European city, various parts of Asia, Northern Central and Southern America or Canada which are closer and way more interesting - oh and Scandinavia.
