Congrats Dave, glad to hear it’s exceeding expectations. Did the ad really not mention the engine rebuild and other work done?!

I thought it would turn out to be a good buy. A good machine polish, light revival and interior deep clean will work wonders.
Might have to wander up the auctions where they get their stock and see what the hammer prices is on things like this as they have to be making a profit on it.

Anyone suggesting amber indicators on anything built after 1992 needs their head examining 😀

Looks better that way - and makes it apparent that Dave's is definitely right with clears, since it has the clear side repeaters at the back ends of the front bumper.

That car is helped by the interior colour and background brickwork (?).

4wd, paintwork you're not precious about...will the coilovers go high enough to join Jobbo?

Trafficators FTW. I'm surprised there isn't a trend for getting rid of indicators completely in favour of retro-fitting trafficators. After all, making it impossible to work out what part of the car might flash orange is surely the intention?

I know, I'm constantly surprised when I see an orange light come out of a clear lens on every car made in the last 20 years*.

It must be a source of constant crashes.

I’m going to give the drivers side headlight another go. In isolation it looks good up close but it just doesn’t have the clarity of the other side. It started out looking considerably worse.

Of course. I’m certain this forum will be the first to know when something goes wrong with it 😂

Sundayjumper wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2019 9:08 am What are your thoughts so far on the 911 driving experience ? They're a bit different to anything else.
The engine is lovely. If I knew nothing about 911s and was asked to guess the engine size, I’d say it was bigger than 3.4 litres. Loads of torque everywhere, beautifully smooth, sounds amazing as it climbs over 5000rpm and pulls to 7k. The 3.6 is supposed to be torquier, but the 3.4 is a monster.

It doesn’t feel as fast as the Golf but a couple of tests suggest it is easily. The tall gearing hides it a bit so it’s not as manic, it just climbs the revs and does its thing, which is actually lovely. Did I mention it sounds incredible?

The ride is a bit busy on the coilovers, but not harsh or too annoying. The steering, despite my suspicions around the track rod ends, is really nice and direct. It actually took some getting used to after the somewhat numb Golf (by comparison).

The handling will take some getting used to, as I’m sure you’ve experienced. The nose darts in so quickly but it also feels like it wants to understeer a bit but never lets go, then as you apply the power, you feel it driving from the rear. That adjustability through the corner is something I haven’t experienced since my first WRX, but it’s an even stronger reaction. It needs more finesse than I’ve been used to applying in the Golf. It moves around, but it’s not losing grip, just changing its attitude. Loads to explore.

I’m hooked.

I’m not doing the Triangle tomorrow as originally planned due to needing to be back home fairly early, so I’m going to start the detailing work tomorrow instead.

It looks much better in your pics than the first post’s. Shockingly good value, by the looks of it.

Are you going to clean the steering wheel or just buy a new one?

May be worth getting a pro-valet of interior; even a local Polish one with a wet-vac etc would make quick work of what would take you a lot longer?
Cheers,

Ian
