Mighty Car Mod and Skid Factory fans will already know Benny aka Mechanical Stig (I find the horribly contrived nicknames excruciatingly awful so won't be repeating them ever again):

Yeah been following his new channel for a few weeks, love that Cresta.

Good to see he's doing Drag Week again.

Is there anything online about the changes on the Cresta from the last Dragweek to now? It's bloody wheelie'ing now!! And that 8.39 pass was fkn immense.

And ditto on doing Dragweek again 👍

Nah he's only dropped bits and pieces I think.

AFAIK the internals of the old Barra were pretty much standard whereas this one is custom built.

The old one was definitely standard, and in the teardown episode he had taken it to a Barra guru. Wonder what they did to it? That Barra lump is a bloody staunch bit of kit.

Had a nosy around and the engine that's gone in is rated for 1200bhp. They're only making just under 1100 just now. Must be gently running it in .

Jesus. From an engine that was used in taxis!! Very 1JZ-a-like.

edit - 2JZ - FFS James

Aye, they only reasons I can see that they never caught on like a JZ is that they’re pretty rare outside Australia and they’re a big lump.

I've not seen the vid yet, but the cresta never really leapt off the line like a 'proper' dragster.

Obviously it was properly rapid when up and rolling.

You need to watch the vid Harry - proper bloody wheelies off the line now. Seriously - 8.3s runs aren't fucking about!

Must be where a chunk of the time has come from. I always thought if they properly nailed the launch it would have gone a lot quicker, but I expect they had many reasons for running it as they were at the time.

It would be cool if they got a chance to run against Blasphemi while they're doing Drag Week.

Both Youtube famous cars running similar power and getting similar times but couldn't be much more different in execution.

They're a cast iron block so they're not much use in anything that you want to handle because they weigh the same as a small moon. An LS V8 is a better option because it's lighter, shorter and lower so tends to fit better in most engine bays despite the width. But, they're piled high in scrapyards all over Aus so very, very cheap. They don't really make much sense anywhere else.

Aye it's hard to see past an LS if you just want something that'll make a lot of power for not a lot of money tbh.

For some reason that Cresta made me think of the Ex Vi Termini Skyline from years ago.

Anyone else remember that?

It used to run low 8s (in RWD form) about 10 years back.

Mental dyno pull videos too:

Watched the Cresta video last night, wheel stands 8-).

Crazy to think it's running low 8s with no effort to take any weight out of it at all, it'd probably be in the sevens if they took the seats and carpets out .

Aye, it’s hard to say how much of an increase it is over what was in before because I think he did some work on it after he bought it off the mcm guys.

Probably about 300 up on what he had at drag week last year though .
