I imagine Mike the Scan has the road test somewhere. I chopped my copy up and put the pictures in a scrap book that is long gone

Supercar'd out generally Chris ( unless we're taking F40 or GT2 RS )
I'll be completely honest - I'm a lot more excited about his Mk1 Scort and would LOVE to see a road test on that when it's finished

Anyway, for anyone who has never seen it.....
Interesting to read the opening lines and see how they thought they’d never test a faster car

Only ‘4 stars’ for the F40

Pretty decent summary for the 512TR above too. Got me searching for old clips of it on YouTube

Aye many thanks Mike. I remember buying that issue when it came out, funny how many of the words have stuck with me over 25 years later.

There's lots of information in that article but 60-80 in 1.2 seconds with no driver aids must be terrifying.
Re: XP5 25 years on from original Autocar road test
Still my favourite supercar of all time. Amazing that 25 years on, no Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini has gone faster.
Interesting review of those that work on F1's https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/feat ... mclaren-f1
7.5 hour initial road test followed by a final 7 hour road test after the service. Can't be a bad job

Re: XP5 25 years on from original Autocar road test
14.5 hour road test is surprising- that must add up to more mileage than the average owner must do between services?
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: XP5 25 years on from original Autocar road test
On part throttle!! I missed that the first time around.

I wonder what hot Pirelli P-Zero Corsas or whatever 'barely legal' tyres are currently considered sticky as fuck would to do that time?

Destroy the clutch probably.

I've got a feeling maclaren will have engineered theirs properly unlike Ferrari or lamborghini who seem to build in an instant clutch smoke generator to relieve owners of mountains of cash from one slightly clutch slippy brisk take off.
Cheers, Harry
